Introduction

In 1860 a family game was published by Milton Bradley called “The Game of Life.”

The Game of Life is a board game that takes you on the journey of life...

you can be the rich man,

the poor man,

or even the beggar.

In this game you learn that life is full of surprises.

You can risk everything for BIG gains or you can lose it all in a moment.

It has been re-published through the years over 9 times.

In 1866, 1959, 1961, 1978, 1985, 1999, 2002, 2004, & 2006.

Does anyone know how many times it has been re-published through the years?

The Game of Life has changed through the years … it’s look … it’s pieces … it’s quality.

But one thing has remained the same … THE OBJECT OF THE GAME WAS TO GET TO THE MANSION.

Man, that sounds a lot like our spiritual journey - there are good times, hard times - things change throughout the years - but the goal of every person is to get to the MANSION - not in this life, but in eternity.

Life is not a game.

It has serious consequences for bad decisions and great outcomes for Godly decisions.

The one thing that this game doesn't account for is Death.

Yet Death is natural to humanity as part of the created world.

It’s Universal!

None can escape death and it comes to all kinds of people.

This Psalm is attributed to David and is considered a lament about “The Brevity of Life.”

It was strophic in nature in that it used the same melody over and over with different text that would be memorable to the reader.

THE psalmist, vexed and disgusted with life, feeling a desire to murmur and complain, but aware that his words are watched, and his wicked enemies ready to make use of them against him, has resolved on maintaining an entire silence—at any rate, while the ungodly are in his sight (vers.

1, 2), but is unable to keep to his resolve.

Despite himself, he bursts out into speech—a speech of bitter complaint (vers.

4–6).

In his challenged state, he gives us some answers to life’s questions concerning death.

I. Death Occurs when God Determines it

Lord, Make me to know mine end,

And the measure of my days, what it is;

states that he needed to be reminded of some things about life.

The number of his months are with thee,

In in his questions to God said...

Thou hast appointed his bounds that he cannot pass;

Seeing his days are determined.

Job here returns to the consideration of the shortness of man’s life.

“His days are determined;” i.e. they are a limited period, known to and fixed beforehand by God.

They are not like God’s days, which “endure throughout all generations” (Ps.

102:24).

The number of his months are with thee.

“With thee” means here “known to thee,” “laid up in thy counsels.”

Thou hast appointed his bounds that he cannot pass.

“His bounds” are “the limit of his lifetime.”

Seeing his days are determined.

Live like today is the first and last day of your life...

Focus on what really matters most in your life…

Your Relationship with Christ

Your Relationship with your Family

Determine to honor God in every area of your life...

The question becomes why are we so frail?

Death is a result of Adam’s sin ; ;

But there is Good News!
