Redemptive Grace
Redemptive: acting to save someone from error or evil
grace: unearned favor
2019 GOAL:
52 Baptisms
Samson’s mother story
been barren
message from God that she was going to have a child
specific instruction for how he was supposed to live
specific purpose for his life
We Learned:
God needs people to see potential in people who are undeserving
God needs us to know that He will use us when we are not usable
when we learn this we will begin to sacrifice for the good of others
2 ways to sacrifice:
doing things for others that we would not normally do
abstaining from things for the building up of others
Judges 14:1–2 ESV
Samson went down to Timnah, and at Timnah he saw one of the daughters of the Philistines. Then he came up and told his father and mother, “I saw one of the daughters of the Philistines at Timnah. Now get her for me as my wife.”
Samson says: “I see & I want”

Judges 14:3 ESV
But his father and mother said to him, “Is there not a woman among the daughters of your relatives, or among all our people, that you must go to take a wife from the uncircumcised Philistines?” But Samson said to his father, “Get her for me, for she is right in my eyes.”
because she was on the enemy team they knew that his wife would not be a virtuous woman after God’s heart
that’s the goal---
So they plan to get married
Samson meets 30 of her family friends at the wedding party
tells them a riddle
if they guess it within they each give him a linen garment and a change of clothes
if they don’t then he will give them each a linen garment and a change of clothes
3 days go by and they can’t figure it out so
Judges 14:15–17 ESV
On the fourth day they said to Samson’s wife, “Entice your husband to tell us what the riddle is, lest we burn you and your father’s house with fire. Have you invited us here to impoverish us?” And Samson’s wife wept over him and said, “You only hate me; you do not love me. You have put a riddle to my people, and you have not told me what it is.” And he said to her, “Behold, I have not told my father nor my mother, and shall I tell you?” She wept before him the seven days that their feast lasted, and on the seventh day he told her, because she pressed him hard. Then she told the riddle to her people.
he gets upset when the guys find out the riddle
he kills 30 other people and takes their stuff
gives his due payment to the 30 men
then it says that he went to his dads house to cool off for a minute and when he returns
Judges 14:20 ESV
And Samson’s wife was given to his companion, who had been his best man.
so that happened
then his father in law says that Samson can have her sister instead
long story short he is not happy and set fire to their crops
this upset the Philistines and they killed his wife’s family
Samson hid for a minute
killed some more men then it tells us that
Judges 15:20 ESV
And he judged Israel in the days of the Philistines twenty years.
Judges 16:1
Judges 16:1–4 ESV
Samson went to Gaza, and there he saw a prostitute, and he went in to her. The Gazites were told, “Samson has come here.” And they surrounded the place and set an ambush for him all night at the gate of the city. They kept quiet all night, saying, “Let us wait till the light of the morning; then we will kill him.” But Samson lay till midnight, and at midnight he arose and took hold of the doors of the gate of the city and the two posts, and pulled them up, bar and all, and put them on his shoulders and carried them to the top of the hill that is in front of Hebron. After this he loved a woman in the Valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah.
she keeps trying to figure out what is the source of his strength to tell the Philistines
he gives her false answers
Judges 16:15–17 ESV
And she said to him, “How can you say, ‘I love you,’ when your heart is not with me? You have mocked me these three times, and you have not told me where your great strength lies.” And when she pressed him hard with her words day after day, and urged him, his soul was vexed to death. And he told her all his heart, and said to her, “A razor has never come upon my head, for I have been a Nazirite to God from my mother’s womb. If my head is shaved, then my strength will leave me, and I shall become weak and be like any other man.”
Judges 16:15
then she told them and helped them plot to cut his hair
_____________________________-
Samson has a problem
I see and I want is his normal thought process
unfortunately we struggle in the same way often times
maybe not just with the ladies but we have a hard time controlling our desires
Romans 7:15-
Romans 7:15–18 ESV
For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. Now if I do what I do not want, I agree with the law, that it is good. So now it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me. For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out.
Romans 7:21–23 ESV
So I find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies close at hand. For I delight in the law of God, in my inner being, but I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members.
romans 7:21-
so we struggle to do what is right in the eyes of the Lord because we have this sin nature with sinful desires build in
who can relate?
I am lazy by default
I am drawn to things and people who are not part of God’s plan for my life
Romans 8:5–9 ESV
For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God. You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him.
Romans 8:5-
we must learn the power of our minds
the things that we set our minds on will direct the actions of our lives
so let us flood our minds with God’s truth and direction
desire is contagious and addictive
so find people with the desires that you desire to have and spend time with them
desire is also addictive so spend your time fixing your eyes on Jesus because He is the prize rather than on everything else
junk in junk out
God in godliness out
invitation
pray for desires
pray for the right influences in your life
pray that you would replace negative time with Christ centered time
