Westminster Catechism- What is the chief end of man? Man’s chief end is to Glorify God and enjoy Him forever.

Beautiful and true, but may be simplistic beyond repair for teaching what i means to truly serve God the way he desires.

Glorifying God- Your Life

We see end of vs. 3 - the Messiah comes to Glorify God. Then our job description.

Remember we were the poor, the brokenhearted, the captives, the prisoners.

Now we are planting of the Lord- Oaks of Righteousness.

Did you know God is perfecting you?

What things are we to do?

Rebuild the old ruins, raise up the former desolations, repair ruined cities, Be priests of the Lord.

God cares about cities-

A city without a wall- constantly under siege.

Jesus weeping outside of Jerusalem- sheep without a shepherd.

Have you seen the city around us since we moved in? Is it a coincidence that there are businesses now and it looks newer and rejuvenated, or does the Spirit bring blessing where He sends His church?

How do we do this? How do we bring God’s restoration?

Doing the Same Things as Jesus

What things are we to do?

Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. 13 And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.

Look at the authority we have been given:

Prayer is so powerful. He will do it if we ask.

James- you have not because you ask not.

We do what Jesus did- what did He do?

Good tidings to the poor, heal the broken-hearted, proclaim liberty to the captives,

HOW?

Vs. 1 The Spirit has anointed me_____

Being Anointed:

This word anoint- to smear with liquid- same word for painting- (see below)

The idea- Perfecting, finishing touch…

If you want to be Anointed, Don’t resist God’s purification. We should pursue Holiness.

My story- getting rid of my eyebrow ring- Death to come alive...

He anoints for service- not for our own hoarding.

There is no better place to serve than where God has placed you.

There isn’t a better task for you than restoring the broken things where you already are.

Expect it to be supernatural.

Second experience- Anointing is not the same as salvific filling.

Jesus’s anointing- Dove upon Him-

Acts Church- tongues of fire- drunkenness
