THE UNBELIEVERSA. Ungodly men have crept in unnoticed (vs 4)1. Marked for condemnation2. To turn the grace of God into licentiousness3. To deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus ChristB. Past examples of Ungodly Apostates: (vs 5-7)1. Israelites delivered from Egypt – destroyed because of unbelief2. Angels in heaven left there position – reserved for judgement3. Sodom and Gomorrah – Suffered the vengeance of firea. went after strange fleshC. Current examples of Ungodly Apostates: (vs 8-11)1. Defile the flesh2. Reject authority3. Revile angelic majestiesa. Michael, did not dare pronounce against him a railing judgmentb. “The Lord rebuke you”4. Revile the things which they do not understanda. By instinctb. Like unreasoning animalsc. They are destroyed5. Gone the way of Cain (are murderers)6. Run greedily in the error of Balaam for profit (are greedy)7. Perished in the rebellion of Korah (are rebellious)D. The Depravity of Ungodly Apostates (vs 12-13)1. They have no fear2. They care only for themselves3. They are clouds without water (useless, no spiritual depth, look good only on the outside)4. They are carried about by the winds (always following the latest fade or “spiritual event” or preacher)5. They are late autumn trees without fruit (fruit of the Spirit not manifested in there lives)6. They are twice dead, pulled up by the roots (hearts hardened, won’t change, useless to the kingdom of God)7. They are wild waves of the sea, casting up to their own shame (Godly people see their foolishness, shame, immaturity in godly things. They get angry if you don’t agree with them)8. They are wandering stars (have no root in the faith, no purpose but to destroy and corrupt. They shine a false light that is deceptive)i. Blackest darkness has been reserved foreverE. The Judgment of the Ungodly Apostates – It was prophesied by Enoch (vs 14-15)1. Execute judgment on all who are ungodly2. To convict all who are ungodlya. The deeds of the ungodlyb. The way of the ungodlyc. The speech of the ungodly F. The Ungodly Apostates of the End Times (vs 16) 1. They are grumblers2. They are complainers (find faults)3. They walk according to their own lusts4. They speak arrogantly5. They give flattery6. To gain advantageG. Remember the words of Jesus (vs 17-19)1. That there would be mockers in the last days2. That they would walk according to their own ungodly lust3. That they would cause divisions4. That they would be worldly-minded5. That they would not have the SpiritIII. THE BELIEVERSA. But you Beloved (vs 20-23)1. Build yourselves up in your most holy faith (refer to vs 3)2. Pray in the Holy Spirit3. Keep yourselves in the love of God4. Look for the mercy of Christ unto eternal life (Jesus’ return)5. Have compassion on those whose faith is wavering (Amplified Bible)
