Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
Introduction:
Introduction:
For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
I. Delight must be in the Right Person (vs. 4a)
I. Delight must be in the Right Person (vs. 4a)
Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
The Word “delight” here carries in the Hebrew language the idea of a high degree of pleasure of mental satisfaction.
Just imagine a life where all that brought you pleasure was the absolute delight of God.
You find, in your God, everything that is satisfying.
Paul had an idea of that level of satisfaction:
Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,
Paul was willing to give up everything in order that He may have the delighting relationship with Christ.
As believers, we must find the proper delight.
We find our delight in the person of God.
I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.
As we find continually find our delight in God, we find delight in His Word.
You cannot truly find your delight in God where there is not a delight in His Word.
I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word.
For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:
But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
Thy testimonies also are my delight and my counsellors.
And I will delight myself in thy commandments, which I have loved.
Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts.
But, just as a side note, I am very thankful that God finds delight in me.
Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy.
For the LORD taketh pleasure in his people: he will beautify the meek with salvation.
Our delight needs to be in the right person.
“Delight yourself (in the Lord)”.
II. Delight must be for the right Purpose (vs. 4b)
II. Delight must be for the right Purpose (vs. 4b)
Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
As we delight ourself in the Lord it does not mean that God gives us everything that we want, what it does mean is that because we delight in Him first, His desires are our desires, His pleasure are our pleasures.
And I will give them an heart to know me, that I am the LORD: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God: for they shall return unto me with their whole heart.
How do you know that your desires are for the right purpose?
Teach me thy way, O LORD; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name.
He will fulfil the desire of them that fear him: he also will hear their cry, and will save them.
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Delight yourself in God and His desire become your desire and He is faith to fulfill them.
