23 And it came to pass, that he went through the corn fields on the sabbath day; and his disciples began, as they went, to pluck the ears of corn.
23 And it happened that He was passing through the grainfields on the Sabbath, and His disciples began to make their way along while picking the heads of grain.
Corn here is the English word for grain. (show picture)
a. Elab on them walking along the fields. They are hungery and they grab a snack. This was legal, they were not stealing.
Deuteronomy 24:
25 When thou comest into the standing corn of thy neighbour, then thou mayest pluck the ears with thine hand; but thou shalt not move a sickle unto thy neighbour’s standing corn.
b. You could not harvest it, but could take some when in need.
c. Jesus knew what the word said, (I will use the term Bible) because He is God. It was His word, tells us, he is the word.
e. I am not talking a the knowing theological meaning, or being a Bible scholar. I’m talking about a spiritual understanding.
f.
Mark 2:
24 And the Pharisees said unto him, Behold, why do they on the sabbath day that which is not lawful?
24 The Pharisees were saying to Him, “Look, why are they doing what is not lawful on the Sabbath?”
Why were they so concerned about they eating the grain? They were trying to find fault with Jesus.
a. They didn’t understand who He was. He was not what they were expecting in the Messiah, so they didn’t believe that He was.
b. The Pharisees saw Him as a trouble maker. He was getting in their way. He was showing and teaching something new. They didn’t like it.
c. They did not see what was in the bible. They didn’t see Jesus as the waited Messiah. It was there, they just didn’t get.
1. The virgin birth. Born in Bethlehem. Tribe of Judah. Descendant of David.
a. It was all there, the had read, they knew what it said, they just didn’t have an understanding.
b. There were a few (Pharisees) that were beginning to understand.
12 “If I told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things?
John
1 There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: 2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.
2. Jesus is going to show them, in the word that what His disciples were doing was not breaking the Sabbath laws.
25 And he said unto them, Have ye never read what David did, when he had need, and was an hungred, he, and they that were with him?
26 How he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and did eat the shewbread, which is not lawful to eat but for the priests, and gave also to them which were with him?
27 And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:
28 Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.
Mark 2:25-
25 And he said unto them, Have ye never read what David did, when he had need, and was an hungred, he, and they that were with him?
26 How he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and did eat the shewbread, which is not lawful to eat but for the priests, and gave also to them which were with him?
Mark 2:
25 And He said to them, “Have you never read what David did when he was in need and he and his companions became hungry;
26 how he entered the house of God in the time of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the consecrated bread, which is not lawful for anyone to eat except the priests, and he also gave it to those who were with him?”
Jesus throws back a question to them.
“Have you ever read what David did?
a. David had need, and those that were with him.
H.W
b. Shewbread (consecrated bread) was for the priest, 12 loaves for the 12 tribes.
b. David was being perused by Saul, so he had need. So David did what did because he had need. He was hungry.
c. If they would have known the bible, they would have known that.
2. Here is what I want you to get out of this today.
a. If Jesus is your Lord, or is you really want Jesus to be your Lord, You have to have insight to His word. You have to know the Bible. Or you have to be willing to willing to learn.
b. It’s not about having great theology understanding. Elab
c. It’s means spending time in the Bible, spending time in prayer.
5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.
2. You can’t get to know the Bible if you don’t spend anytime in it.
a. Reading Bible and understanding may not seem to be easy. Verses in James.
b. I preach from the KJV. But I use others to study from.
NASB. Will help with some better understanding.

15 “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.
John 14:
Commandments: “Word said”
e. The more time you spend in the Bible, the more you will get out of it. (Elab youth baseball)
f. Fri I had a prosecute, one that I could not eat the day before. I love to eat. I had a desire for some food. As a we left the VA. I got something to eat.
g. We need that have that same desire to learn Gods word. Being in Church. Sunday School.
h. If someone has truly been saved, a hunger for the Word should be evident. That’s because as believers, we have tasted the kindness of the Lord and, therefore, long to know Him more fully.
Habitually nibbling on Scripture doesn’t do much to stimulate our appetite. God’s Word is an acquired taste, and the more we consume it, the greater our hunger for it will become.
If you’ve lost your desire for the Word, ask the Lord to restore your appetite, and begin reading every day. As you become more familiar with Scripture, you’ll notice your understanding and desire for it increase. Best of all, your love and devotion for your Savior and will grow as well.
f. You’ll never understand it all. You’ll never have all the answers. But you have to believe.
15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:
I P
15 but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence;
15 But in your hearts set Christ apart as holy [and acknowledge Him] as Lord. Always be ready to give a logical defense to anyone who asks you to account for the hope that is in you, but do it courteously and respectfully.
a. In our hearts we are to honor God as Holy. We will worship Him, we will serve Him, we will live our lives for Him.
a.
b. Everything we do should bring honor to Him. If you will do this, people will see it in your life. They will see why? Look at verse again. “The hope that is in you”
c. You need to have an answer for the hope that is in you. People should see a that there is something different about you. Elab on some ways. Why? Because have Him inn our hearts, and He is holy.

28 Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.
