Opening

It seems odd that immediately after Christ invites us to rest, that he then speaks of taking on a symbol of work. But Christ has done something special here for us, he gives us a litmus test to give us feedback on if we are doing work for ourselves or for God.
It seems odd that immediately after Christ invites us in to rest, that he then speaks of taking on a symbol of work, but I the fact that what Christ does here is give us a litmus test. It is a test to help us know if we are doing something the way God would have us to do it.
This section of scripture is just after a few key things had happened:
John was imprisoned and wanted to confirm if Christ was the “Coming One” or should they wait for another?
Jesus exalted John and made a contrast to show that the hearts of the people would not receive regardless of how a servant of God presented.
Jesus addressed the unrepentance of the hearts of the people and the pride.
Finally he extends and invitation.
