Christ wants His church to look expectantly for His return!
The Promise (vv. 1-3)
The Promise (vv. 1-3)
There is a blessing for those who read, hear, and keep the things written in this book.
The blessing is found in that which is revealed - Jesus Christ!
Christ wants you to know the things that are revealed in this book so that you may know HIM.
It’s all about Jesus.
It is a letter from the Triune God to his servants in the church.
The Person (vv. 4-6)
The Person (vv. 4-6)
The Father - The One who Is, who Was, who is to coming. He is Eternal, unchanging, ever true.
The Spirit - the seven-fold ministry and work of the Holy Spirit.
There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit. And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.
- the seven spiritual gifts: prophecy, service, teaching, exhorting, giving, leading, mercy.
The Son - The focus of Revelation.
Who Christ Is:
The Witness (testifier) - he has revealed the Father. He has given us the truth. He has proformed the covenant.
The Faithful - He is trustworthy.
The Firstborn - He has conquered sin and death.
The Ruler over All the kings of the earth.
What Christ has done:
He loved us.
“His love has no limits, his grace has no measure, his power no boundary known unto men. For out of his infinite riches in Jesus, He giveth, and giveth, and giveth again!”
He cleansed us from sin by his own blood.
“Have you been to Jesus for the cleansing power? Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb? Are you fully trusting in his grace this hour? Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?
He transformed us into kings and priests to God the Father.
What he will do:
The Proclamation (vv. 7-8)
The Proclamation (vv. 7-8)
The unveiling of Mt. Taranaki (Mr. Edmont) in New Zealand.
Behold he comes - as a Bridegroom to receive his Bride.
“I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star.” And the Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let him who hears say, “Come!” And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely.
rev. 22:16-17
Are you ready to meet him?
And now, little children, abide in him, so that when he appears we may have confidence and not shrink from him in shame at his coming.
Behold he comes - as king to claim his throne.
He is the Almighty. The ruler over all the kings of the earth.
Have you bowed before him?
Behold he comes - as a warrior to defeat his enemies. (those who mourn will do so because they have rejected him.)
Have you embraced him?
“When the Bridegroom cometh will your robes be white? Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb? Will your soul be ready for his presence bright? and be washed in the blood of the Lamb?
