Text: (NLT)
1 My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous.
2 He himself is the sacrifice that atones for our sins—and not only our sins but the sins of all the world.
3 And we can be sure that we know him if we obey his commandments.
Text: “… hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments” ().
4 If someone claims, “I know God,” but doesn’t obey God’s commandments, that person is a liar and is not living in the truth.
5 But those who obey God’s word truly show how completely they love him. That is how we know we are living in him.
6 Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did.
7 Dear friends, I am not writing a new commandment for you; rather it is an old one you have had from the very beginning. This old commandment—to love one another—is the same message you heard before.

What can you/we know about Jesus? Let’s see what Jesus is all about.

He Is a Loving Jesus

We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us. So we also ought to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters. Tells us: “We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us. So we also ought to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters.”

16We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us. So we also ought to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters.
16We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us. So we also ought to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters.

We know that He loved us when we were unlovable, dirty awful sinners. He died for our sins when we were hopeless, helpless, and lost.

We know that Jesus wants us to love one another, too. Love is of God: tells us:

19 “We love each other because he loved us first. 20 If someone says, “I love God,” but hates a fellow believer, that person is a liar; for if we don’t love people we can see, how can we love God, whom we cannot see? 21 And he has given us this command: Those who love God must also love their fellow believers.”

19 We love each other because he loved us first.
20 f someone says, “I love God,” but hates a fellow believer, that person is a liar; for if we don’t love people we can see, how can we love God, whom we cannot see?

21And he has given us this command: Those who love God must also love their fellow believers.

We know that He Is a Listening Jesus

tells us: “When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honor them.”

15When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honor them.

We Know that He listens to those who ask for forgiveness and cleansing. He listens with compassion and understanding to those who are burdened and perplexed. I preached about this just last week.......

6 “When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.”

“When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.”

We know that We should listen, that we must listen. We should hear the call of the needy, the poor, the cry of the troubled and lonely. We should care and feel compassion. Are we?

We know that He Is a Lifting Jesus

“But Jesus took him by the hand and helped him to his feet, and he stood up.”

27But Jesus took him by the hand and helped him to his feet, and he stood up.

We know that His hand is extended to every need. He lifts the suffering, sorrowful, and sinful out of despair.

We know that He wants us, You and me to do likewise—help the needy, lift the fallen, and encourage the discouraged, doing all of these things in His name and through His power by the Holy Spirit. says:

(NLT)

17 If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need but shows no compassion—how can God’s love be in that person? 18 Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions.

18Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions.

We know that He is a Liberating Jesus

“So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.".......

36 So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.

We know that We are set free from the bondage of sin when we accept Christ as Savior and Lord. explains: “So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law.”

1So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law.

We know that We should witness to others about the liberating power of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Scripture tells us in John 14:19.....

(NLT)

19 “Soon the world will no longer see me, but you will see me. Since I live, you also will live.

We know that He Is a Living Jesus,

John tells us in Revelations that, “ “I am the living one. I died, but look—I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and the grave.”

18I am the living one. I died, but look—I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and the grave.

A. Jesus is “alive forevermore” (). He arose victorious over death, hell, and the grave ().

().

We know that Because He lives we may live also. All who confess and forsake their sins are assured of eternal life.

We are going to close with Paul’s words in .....

54 Then, when our dying bodies have been transformed into bodies that will never die, this Scripture will be fulfilled: “Death is swallowed up in victory. 55 O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” 56 For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power. 57 But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ.

55O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?”

AMEN

56For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power.
57But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ.
