A Biblical Blueprint for NAS LEMOORE (Acts 2:37-47)

Acts 2:37–47 NIV84
When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.” With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.” Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day. They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

ONE OF SATANS GREATEST ATTACKS, IS AN ASSAULT AGAINST GODS WORD
SATAN VS EVE
SATAN VS JESUS
SATAN’S DESIRE IS ULTIMATELY AN ATTACK ON GOD’S CHARACTER
-SANCTIFY THEM IN TRUTH; YOUR WORD IS TRUTH
SO IN ORDER TO HAVE A PROPER UNDERSTANDING OF WHO GOD IS, WE NEED TO BE PEOPLE WHO ARE IN HIS WORD
B/C HOW YOU THINK ABOUT GOD WILL DETERMINE HOW YOU LIVE FOR GO
AND THE BEST WAY FOR US TO KNOW WHO GOD IS AND WHAT HE IS ABOUT, IS TO GO TO THE BIBLE
GAINE OUR UNDERSTANDING OF GOD FROM THE TESTIMONY HE LEFT OF HIMSELF
TODAY WE ARE GOING TO EXAMINE WHY SCRIPTURE IS SO IMPORTANT NOT ONLY FOR US AS A CHAPLE, BUT AS INDVIDUALS

LETS PRAY

NAS Lemoore will be a chapel devoted to the Word of God:

2 Timothy 3:16–17 NIV
16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

CONTEXT:

PAUL IS ENCOURAGING A YOUNG PASTOR, TIMOTHY
DIFFICULT TIMES AHEAD (READ VVS 10-17)
IT IS NEEDFUL FOR TIMOTHY TO REMEMBER WHERE HE STARTED, AND HOW THE SCRIPTURES KEPT HIM IN HIS FAITH
REMEMBER, SATAN WILL ALWAYS TRY TO BRING DOUBT ON WHAT GOD HAS SAID
GOD’S FAITHFULNESS
THE WORD OF GOD WILL ALWAYS BE OUR FOUNDATION

ALL SCRIPTURE IS GOD-BREATHED

THE SCRIPTURES WE HAVE WERE GIVEN TO US AND BIRTHED FROM LIFE ITSELF
CREATION OF MAN (GOD BREATHED IN TO MAN, AND THEY LIVED)
GOD BREATHED LIFE INTO HIS WORDS, AND THESE WORDS BRING FORTH LIFE

USEFUL

THE WORD OF GOD, THE LIFE GIVING WORD, WHEN READ, BRINGS VALUE TO OUR LIFE
IT IS PRICELESS
CREDIT CARD COMMERCIALS
BY READING THE WORD OF GOD, WE WILL LEARN WHO WE ARE AND WHO GOD IS, AND THE LENGTHS TO WHICH GOD WILL GO IN ORDER TO BRING US INTO HIS KINGDOM
ARE VALUE IS NOT IN WHO WE ARE OR WHAT WE DO, OUR VALUE IS BASED UPON WHO GOD IS, AND WHAT HE HAS DONE FOR US
- FOR WHAT DOES IT PROFIT A MAN TO GAIN THE WHOLE WORLD AND YET FORFIT HIS SOUL
THE WORD IS USEFUL, IT ADDS VALUE TO OUR LIFE, THAT CANNOT COME FROM ANY WHERE ELSE.
PAUL NAMES FOUR PURPOSES FOR THE WORD
Notice there is a natural progression in Paul’s thought process concerning the interaction of the living word in our lives.

Four purposes of the Word and one amazing result:

The word of God Teaches us about the Holiness of God.
Hebrews 4:12–13 NIV
12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
WE NEED TO BE PEOPLE OF THE WORD
IT TEACHES US ABOUT WHO GOD IS AND BRINGS ABOUT A PROPER VIEW OF WHO WE ARE IN COMPARISON TO GOD
THE BIBLE IS NOT DESIGNED TO MAKE US GOOD OR MORALLY GOOD PEOPLE
2. The Word of God Reproves us
IT IS DESIGNED TO MAKE US CHRISTLIKE
2. The word of God brings Reproof to our lives.
James 1:21–25 NIV
21 Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you. 22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.
Reproof literally means to expose
As we read the word, it shines a light onto our hearts, and exposes our sinfulness and our short comings
IT TEACHES US ABOUT WHO GOD IS AND BRINGS ABOUT A PROPER VIEW OF WHO WE ARE IN COMPARISON TO GOD
THE BIBLE IS NOT DESIGNED TO MAKE US GOOD OR MORALLY GOOD PEOPLE
It exposes those areas that no one else sees.
IT IS DESIGNED TO MAKE US CHRISTLIKE

The word literally shows us our need for God
3. The Word of God Corrects our lives and brings us in step with the Father.
To correct our course, literally to get us back on tract
One of the greatest ministries of the HS in our lives is to correct our way of thinking and keep us walking in line with Christ
The spirit keeps us in fellowship with God
The greek word Koinonia = coming along side
- HS will come and teach us all things concerning God
Galatians 5:16–18 NIV
16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
Galatians 5:25 NIV
25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.
4. The Word of God Trains us in righteousness.
The connotation in this phrase literally means the training in righteousness will be actualized, as the Spirit of God creates in us a new heart, a new mind, and a new perspective, the righteousness of God that comes from God and God alone.
Philippians 2:12–13 NIV
12 Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.
The amazing result: the Servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
