It's one thing to know something in your head - a fact that you logically know to be true - but it's another thing entirely to deal with the real consequences of those facts. In Psalm 42, we see the Psalmist grappling and struggling with God in this way. The Psalmist knows full well that God is powerful and mighty, yet also full of love and mercy, and yet he feels himself being abandoned and is in turmoil. He pleads to God for help - and in this, we see how we are called to respond in times of struggle, long and short alike. For though he does not repress how he feels, the Psalmist is still guided by the knowledge that God is our rock and our salvation, in whom we can trust.
