Disciples are to seek as their first priority, not the things they would like to have or the things they are sure they need, but God’s kingdom and righteousness.
First does not here mean “first in time” but “of first importance”
the kingdom is not one among many competing aims, but that which comes first of all.
Jesus is clearly saying the disciple’s first and best effort is to be directed towards God’s kingdom, not any personal needs.
Kingdom points to rule; doing the will of God now, as well as looking for the coming of His final kingdom.
As a result when we seek to put God first in our lives, three things will happen.
