Overview of lessons Aaron Lee

Who is Jesus?
Jesus was around before God.
John 8:58 ESV
58 Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.”
Jn
Jesus is the Son of God.
John 5:25 ESV
25 “Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming, and is now here, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live.
Jesus is God.
John 20:28 ESV
28 Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!”
Jesus is the way to the father. Jesus is the healer.
John 14:6 ESV
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Jesus is the way to the father. Jesus is the healer.
Jesus gives us eternal life.
1 John 5:11–12 ESV
11 And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.
How can you apply this knowledge in your life?
The temptation of Jesus
When was Jesus led into the desert to be tempted?
Jesus was led into the desert to be tempted when Jesus was about 30 years old. After Jesus was baptised and filled with the holy spirit.
Luke 4:1-12
Who led Jesus into the desert?
The Holy spirit led Jesus into the desert to be tempted by Satan for 40 days. Jesus was not alone. Satan came and tempted Jesus after Jesus fasted for 40 days when Jesus was tired and hungry and thirsty.
Satan tempts Jesus 3 times. What did Satan tempt Jesus with?
1) Satan ask Jesus to turn stone into bread.
Satan tempted Jesus to follow the desire of the flesh and sin against God by turning the stones into bread so as to satisfy his desire more than obeying God.But Jesus replied Man shall not live by bread alone. Jesus depended on the word of God to sustain him more than food.
2) Satan brought Jesus and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and told Jesus that if he worshipped satan, Satan would give him the world. If Jesus worshipped Satan, he would not be fit to the perfect sacrifice for us. Because he would have sinned against God by worshipping other Gods. Satan is also tempting Jesus to receive the world without going to the cross. Satan is trying to help Jesus to have a short cut and in the end not obey God.
Jesus replied by saying that we shall fear God and serve the one true God.
Deuteronomy 6:13 ESV
13 It is the Lord your God you shall fear. Him you shall serve and by his name you shall swear.
3) In the third temptation, Satan brings Jesus to the top of the temple and asks Jesus to jump and saying that God will come and save him.
Satan is tempting Jesus to do something which is not in God’s plan and expect God to rescue him. Just like the Israelites tested God and asked is the Lord among us or not. Satan is tempting Jesus to doubt God.
Jesus replied by saying that we shall not put the Lord our God to the test.
Deuteronomy 6:16 ESV
16 “You shall not put the Lord your God to the test, as you tested him at Massah.
How did Satan tempt Jesus and how did Jesus respond?
How should we respond when Satan comes and tempts us?
The last supper
Exodus 12:1–13 ESV
1 The Lord said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, 2 “This month shall be for you the beginning of months. It shall be the first month of the year for you. 3 Tell all the congregation of Israel that on the tenth day of this month every man shall take a lamb according to their fathers’ houses, a lamb for a household. 4 And if the household is too small for a lamb, then he and his nearest neighbor shall take according to the number of persons; according to what each can eat you shall make your count for the lamb. 5 Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male a year old. You may take it from the sheep or from the goats, 6 and you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of this month, when the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill their lambs at twilight. 7 “Then they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and the lintel of the houses in which they eat it. 8 They shall eat the flesh that night, roasted on the fire; with unleavened bread and bitter herbs they shall eat it. 9 Do not eat any of it raw or boiled in water, but roasted, its head with its legs and its inner parts. 10 And you shall let none of it remain until the morning; anything that remains until the morning you shall burn. 11 In this manner you shall eat it: with your belt fastened, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand. And you shall eat it in haste. It is the Lord’s Passover. 12 For I will pass through the land of Egypt that night, and I will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and on all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments: I am the Lord. 13 The blood shall be a sign for you, on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and no plague will befall you to destroy you, when I strike the land of Egypt.
What is the passover, why did God command the Israelites to celebrate the passover?
God wanted the Jews to remember that God delivered them from Egypt and death when God sent judgement onto the land. God commanded the Israelites to kill an unblemished lamb and take its blood and coat the their doorways with its blood. When the angel of God saw the blood, the angel will pass by and will not bring death upon that house hold.
How does this connect with the Communion?
It points forward to the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. That Jesus is the sacrificial lamb who will give up his life for us. He will pour out his blood to bring us out of our Egypt of our lives. Our old lives. In the verse it says that Jesus broke the bread and said this is my body broken for you. Then Jesus took the cup and said this my blood of the covenant which is poured out for many.
When Jesus broke the bread and gave it to the disciples, it symbolise that Jesus presence will be with the disciples whenever they took the communion together. The blood represents the sacrifice of Jesus for us to wash away our sins.
The crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
Jesus was crucified outside the city wall as a sign of rejection. Then he was flogged and later made to carry his cross. Later Simon was made to carry the cross because Jesus was too weak to carry the cross after being flogged.
Jesus was crucified at 9am till 3pm. Jesus was on nailed to the cross for 6 hrs.
Matt 27:37-44
When Jesus was on the cross, they made fun of him and said the he was the king of the jews, they said that he was going to destroy the temple and rebuild it in 3 days, he was the son of God, the saviour of man and the king of Israel. They did not believe that he was all these things. But Jesus later showed that he is all these things that he said.
Who do you think Jesus is to you when you read this passage?
