“We are glad to be weak, if you are really strong. What we pray for is your restoration to maturity.” ( NLT)

2 Corinthians 13:9 ESV
For we are glad when we are weak and you are strong. Your restoration is what we pray for.

A few basics about spiritual growth:

1. Spiritual growth is not automatic.

2. Spiritual growth is not for a select few

3. Spiritual growth is not measured by beliefs, but by behavior.

4. Spiritual growth is measured out of relationships.

We can measure our discipleship and spiritual growth three ways:

I. My Time

1. Time with God’s word

“Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.” ()

2. Time in prayer

“And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.” ()

3. Time in service

“So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling;” ()

II. My Tithe

“On the first day of the week let each one of you lay something aside, storing up as he may prosper, that there be no collections when I come.” (, NKJV)

“Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” ()

1. Give Deliberately- “What you have decided in your heart.”

2. Give Regularly- “On the first day of every week”

3. Give Cheerfully, “God loves a cheerful giver.”

4. Give Proportionately, “As he may prosper.”

Jesus said, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” ()

III. My Team

“Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another--and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” ()

1. Not forsaking fellowship

2. Exhorting each other

“We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ.” ()
