Water Made Sweet
Water Made Sweet
They are finished with Egypt and moving to another location. A place God promised to take them to fulfill His promises to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob
In Great Celebration, Israel sings a song.
Don’t you think this is a happy ending? What do you think could go wrong? What does God want from Israel?

Chapeter 16
And Miriam sang to them:
“Sing to the Lord, for he has triumphed gloriously;
the horse and his rider he has thrown into the sea.”
Wilderness of Shur
Three days and No Water
Exodus 15:23-
When they came to Marah, they could not drink the water of Marah because it was bitter; therefore it was named Marah. And the people grumbled against Moses, saying, “What shall we drink?”
God throws a long into the water and it became sweet
Exodus 15:25-
And he cried to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a log, and he threw it into the water, and the water became sweet.
There the Lord made for them a statute and a rule, and there he tested them, saying, “If you will diligently listen to the voice of the Lord your God, and do that which is right in his eyes, and give ear to his commandments and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you that I put on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, your healer.”
Then they came to Elim, where there were twelve springs of water and seventy palm trees, and they encamped there by the water.
Transition
God provided them water even after they didn't deserve it. Israel grumbled and blamed Moses for their suffering, yet God was patient with them. Do you think they will trust in God now?
The Falling Manna-Chapter 16
The Falling Manna-Chapter 16
Wilderness of Sin
And the whole congregation of the people of Israel grumbled against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness, and the people of Israel said to them, “Would that we had died by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the meat pots and ate bread to the full, for you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger.”

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Behold, I am about to rain bread from heaven for you, and the people shall go out and gather a day’s portion every day, that I may test them, whether they will walk in my law or not.
Exodus 16:2-4
Exodus 16:2
On the Sixth Day
They will Gather double portions so that they wont have to go out and gather for the Sabbath
What is the Purpose though?
And Moses said, “When the Lord gives you in the evening meat to eat and in the morning bread to the full, because the Lord has heard your grumbling that you grumble against him—what are we? Your grumbling is not against us but against the Lord.”
Exodus 16:
God is Showing Israel that their lack of faith is not in Moses, but in God. God is the one who brought them out of Egypt. God is the one who is keeping his promise to them. God has demonstrated his faithfulness time and time again and yet they fail to believe in him.
Israel fails to listen again…TWICE
Failed to Eat all of it-Some stored some because they didn't trust God would provide again
Failed to keep the Sabbath-Some went and searched for Manna on the seventh day
And the Lord said to Moses, “How long will you refuse to keep my commandments and my laws?
Exodus 16:
God knew that the Exodus was not enough to save Israel.
Israel failed to believe in God even after witnessing the greatest miracles of their time.
Israel would always believe in God and then turn their back on him. This was a never ending cycle with them because even though they weren't slaves anymore they were still sinners.
Transition
Maybe third times a charm right?
Third Times a Charm-Chapter 17
Third Times a Charm-Chapter 17
All the congregation of the people of Israel moved on from the wilderness of Sin by stages, according to the commandment of the Lord, and camped at Rephidim, but there was no water for the people to drink. Therefore the people quarreled with Moses and said, “Give us water to drink.” And Moses said to them, “Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test the Lord?” But the people thirsted there for water, and the people grumbled against Moses and said, “Why did you bring us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our livestock with thirst?”
Exodus 17:1-
Israel just could not believe God.
They tested God asking “Is the Lord among us or not?”
God after this would lead Israel into battle to defeat Amalek just by having Moses raise his hands during the battle but thats not the point.
How could Israel ask such a question after everything they have seen?
Israel failed to believe in God even after witnessing the greatest miracles of their time.
Israel would always believe in God and then turn their back on him. This was a never ending cycle with them because even though they weren't slaves to Egypt anymore they were still slaves to sin.
Are we No Better?
Are we No Better?
The real question though is actually for us. When are we going to believe?
You have people like me, your teachers, your leaders all telling you the same thing. Believe in God, look at what he has done for you in his life through what you read in the Bible. He has given you your biggest need. He provides food and water for you everyday. But most importantly through Jesus you are no longer a slave to sin.
We are no different than Israel guys. We have seen God through everyone here because we are his Church. We have the Bible to tell us what God has done in history. I
