The need for regeneration

John 3:3 NKJV
Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
See also ; ;

Regeneration is a work of God

It originates in God the Father

Regeneration cannot be controlled by human actions or rituals; it is an act of God’s sovereign will.

It is made possible by the resurrection of Jesus Christ

1 Peter 1:3 NKJV
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
See also

It occurs through the hearing of the Christian gospel

James 1:18 NKJV
Of His own will He brought us forth by the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of His creatures.
See also The “word of God” is the good news about Jesus Christ.

It is effected by God’s Spirit

John 3:5–8 NKJV
Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”
See also ;

Regeneration is given to those who believe in Jesus Christ

1 John 5:1 NKJV
Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves Him who begot also loves him who is begotten of Him.

Baptism is the sign of regeneration

Water here is seen by some, though not all, interpreters as a reference to baptism, administered by the church to new converts as a sign of their new birth and their entry into the Christian community.
