Fixing a Net Problem
Fixing a Net Problem
1 So it was, as the multitude pressed about Him to hear the word of God, that He stood by the Lake of Gennesaret, 2 and saw two boats standing by the lake; but the fishermen had gone from them and were washing their nets. 3 Then He got into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, and asked him to put out a little from the land. And He sat down and taught the multitudes from the boat.
Vs 1 Jesus is not performing miracles at this moment. HE IS TEACHING THE WORD. There is a deep hunger for the Word. Peter and Andrew, are washing last nights failure off of the nets. Matt; tells us James and John are mending their net.
4 When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, “Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” 5 But Simon answered and said to Him, “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net.”
When he stopped. (It’s time to act on the Word that was taught) The Lord leads. Launch out (Return) to the deep. Go back to where the failure just occured. But take the Word and leading this time. Let down your nets for a catch.
Inventory time:
The Quickened (Made Alive )Word Being Released.
The Voice of the Lord Directing.
The Needed Nets.
The Promised Outcome.
A Tired, Somewhat Reluctant, but Willing Expert on Fishing.
An Empty Boat.
We have probably every fish in the lake, trying to get to one place in obedience to Jesus!
This looks like the miracle Peter’s fishing business needs after last nights shut out.
Continue:
6 And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking.
And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish......dance dance dance, shout shout shout, run, run run........except......fade in and their net was breaking. Wuest says their net was torn apart. They are in danger of losing their promised harvest....
7 So they signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink.
*Last night, they could not catch anything. Now their boats are coming in so full, they have to try not to sink.
8 When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord!”
JESUS!, We have a net problem.
Don’t you worry, I’ll take the nets back to the second hand store and I’ll get my money back.
Crazy scenario. Yes, but Jesus would look at Peter and say.. Peter, you don’t have a net problem
All In!
Look at how the scripture really reads.
8 When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord!”
Notice Peter’s reaction: This should be a dance around the table moment, but instead........Get away from me.
Highlighted verses 4 and 5 slide
They didn’t have a net problem. They had an all in problem. Jesus called for enough fish to fill the nets. The fisherman fine tuned the command to better fit his desires. (explain )
11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.
What a beautiful release from Heaven. It’s not a promise. It is an already released Truth.
14 I will let you find me, says the Lord, and I will restore your fortunes and gather you from all the nations and all the places where I have driven you, says the Lord, and I will bring you back to the place from which I sent you into exile.
*Hide and Seek
But before you can dance around the table over Jer 2911-14, you have to be willing to commit to verse 10
10 For thus says the Lord: After seventy years are completed at Babylon, I will visit you and perform My good word toward you, and cause you to return to this place.
70 Years? That’s a whole generation.
We Must Be Willing to Let Our Plans Die, So His Can Be Raised Up.
Let go back to talking about that net again.
We Are Loaded!
We Are Loaded!
1 Simon Peter, a bondservant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have obtained like precious faith with us by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ:
2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord,
3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue,
4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

The Missing Component to Great Faith
Background and vs 15
15 Then God said to Abraham, “As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall be her name.
Sarai: Princess
Sarah: Princess
Fade in:
Sarai: Princess : Dominative - An Official Title
Sarah: Princess : One who Prevails, One who has power.
Fade in: Man gives a title; God prevails in power. Continue VS 16
16 And I will bless her and also give you a son by her; then I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of peoples shall be from her.”
Who is speaking? The Lord: (I Will) bless her (empower her to do what he says she will do.) And Then, I will bless her again.... AND.....SHE SHALL BE…Up until this moment, she has been operating as a bumper sticker or inspiration poster you hang on the wall. When God breathed life into the bumper sticker, it was now alive.
What happens when the Word of God comes alive inside of you? Do you get excited? Look at the Father of our Faith.
17 Then Abraham fell on his face and laughed, and said in his heart, “Shall a child be born to a man who is one hundred years old? And shall Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear a child?”
Said in his .......heart. He’s not even saying this out loud. Lord…do you remember who you are talking too? (Columbus, Lord do you know how old I am?)
18 And Abraham said to God, “Oh, that Ishmael might live before You!”
God, here is my idea. How about if we skip over the supernatural and do it my way.
19 Then God said: “No, Sarah your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac; I will establish My covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his descendants after him.
From here on out, neither God nor Abraham ever refers to her as Sarai again. She is Sarah.
Continue: Chapter 18
1 Then the Lord appeared to him by the terebinth trees of Mamre, as he was sitting in the tent door in the heat of the day.
2 So he lifted his eyes and looked, and behold, three men were standing by him; and when he saw them, he ran from the tent door to meet them, and bowed himself to the ground,
3 and said, “My Lord, if I have now found favor in Your sight, do not pass on by Your servant.
4 Please let a little water be brought, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree.
5 And I will bring a morsel of bread, that you may refresh your hearts. After that you may pass by, inasmuch as you have come to your servant.” They said, “Do as you have said.”
“A Morsel of Bread” a Piece: a bit.
6 So Abraham hurried into the tent to Sarah and said, “Quickly, make ready three measures of fine meal; knead it and make cakes.”
7 And Abraham ran to the herd, took a tender and good calf, gave it to a young man, and he hastened to prepare it.
15 quarts? “Make Cakes”
8 So he took butter and milk and the calf which he had prepared, and set it before them; and he stood by them under the tree as they ate.
9 Then they said to him, “Where is Sarah your wife?” So he said, “Here, in the tent.”
Vs 8: Where are the cakes? Where is the bread? (McD) Sarah didn’t make the cakes. Why?
Vs 9 Not only are the cakes missing.......So is Sarah.
Here, in the tent.
Before we look at the word Here. Jump to verse 11
11 Now Abraham and Sarah were old, well advanced in age; and Sarah had passed the age of childbearing.
Sarah had entered menopause. Back to verse 9
9 Then they said to him, “Where is Sarah your wife?” So he said, “Here, in the tent.”
Where is Sarah? Why isn’t she out here with us? Is she making the bread? No....Here Said curtly with a nod of the head, or a quick gesture..
Here: Behold, indeed, look,
Surely see, Suddenly in fact......
Surprisingly, SURPRISE!
Why is Abraham having such a problem expressing himself here? Where is the bread? She can’t make it right now. Why doesn’t she come on out for a while? She can’t right now. Why is she confined to the tent right now? Only one reason. God had released a promise. Sarah has just experienced a miracle. She can’t come out, because her body is suddenly acting like a young woman again.........Menopause has lost the battle.
10 And He said, “I will certainly return to you according to the time of life, and behold, Sarah your wife shall have a son.” (Sarah was listening in the tent door which was behind him.)
11 Now Abraham and Sarah were old, well advanced in age; and Sarah had passed the age of childbearing.
A Word is released, The Spirit is directing. A promises is in sight. Now The word is made alive. Only one more thing is needed.
12 Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, “After I have grown old, shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?”
Sarah is not referring to the child birth as pleasure.
Pleasure
The Birth of Issac was All Supernatural, but it was going to require intimacy. There was no longer intimacy in the relationship. We need intimacy with the Lord to bring forth the released promises of God.
