Acts 2:25–42 ESV
25 For David says concerning him, “ ‘I saw the Lord always before me, for he is at my right hand that I may not be shaken; 26 therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced; my flesh also will dwell in hope. 27 For you will not abandon my soul to Hades, or let your Holy One see corruption. 28 You have made known to me the paths of life; you will make me full of gladness with your presence.’ 29 “Brothers, I may say to you with confidence about the patriarch David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. 30 Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that he would set one of his descendants on his throne, 31 he foresaw and spoke about the resurrection of the Christ, that he was not abandoned to Hades, nor did his flesh see corruption. 32 This Jesus God raised up, and of that we all are witnesses. 33 Being therefore exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this that you yourselves are seeing and hearing. 34 For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he himself says, “ ‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at my right hand, 35 until I make your enemies your footstool.” ’ 36 Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified.” 37 Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” 38 And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.” 40 And with many other words he bore witness and continued to exhort them, saying, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation.” 41 So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls. 42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.
Acts 2:25-
Peter Points to David saying he is dead and beried. But that Jesus was raised and everyone saw it. He further states that at this time CHrist was on the right hand of God and Has now poured out his spirit. He concludes reminding them that Jesus is Lord despite the fact they crusified him.

Acts 2:36–43 ESV
36 Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified.” 37 Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” 38 And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 43 And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles.

Acts 2:36–37 ESV
36 Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified.” 37 Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”
Remember we ended last week with Peter’s final claim that they had Crucified the messiah in verse 36 So, in verse 37 they asked what they Should do?
The idea applied here is they made a huge mistake and want to make the future right. Those that listened to Peter’s sermon took them personally and they had a profound amount of regret for what they had done.
Most of them in all likelihood had agreed with the action of putting Jesus to death. Peter’s information on who Jesus was came as a major shock to them and they were pierced to the heart by what He said.
The scripture says they were pierced to the heart. It literally means the feeling of being stabbed with a knife, it meant that they had profound regret. This instance is the only time the term is used in the New Testament Note the power of the crucifixion in Scripture.

The Answer 38-40

Acts 2:38–40 ESV
38 And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.” 40 And with many other words he bore witness and continued to exhort them, saying, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation.”
Peter Begins By telling them to repent. The word repent literally means to make a 180 degree turn from sinful waysIt shows a change of direction in life not just a change of attitude, but of action too. Repent shows a complete Change of mind(note I am sorry and will you forgive me) Peter continues and says be Baptized, so why does it sound like Baptism is a part of salvation here?
Acts 2:38 ESV
38 And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
We must study all of Scripture and through all of Scripture it is basally clear that Baptism does not save you. What peter is saying is repent and then be Baptized as a visible show of your repentance To Israel Circumcision was a visible external marker of the fact that an individual was part of the covenant. Baptism is a visible external show of one’s relationship with Christ. Baptism is not for the forgiveness of sins but rather is a visible example of that forgiveness. All through scripture although Baptism is not required for salvation it accompanies salvation because it is just expected Baptism is in the Name of Jesus Christ and identifies a person as dead to the world and alive in Christ. But again, Baptism does not save you
Acts 2:39 ESV
39 For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.”
The Promise is the gift of the Holy Spirit. Jesus promiced to send the spirit to dwell in those who belong in Him, enableing them to trust and follow Him as there savior and Lord The Gift of the holy spirit is a wonderful blessing bestowed on anyone at the point of conversion. This passage has sometimes been taken as a way to justify baptizing infents if we take it out of context. However, the point is to express the unlimited mercy of God which enbraces the current and future generations of decendents. In addition when the Jewish Mob called for Christ’s Crusifixion they called “His blood be on us and on our Children” Which lickly also could have been a conection here.
Acts 2:40 ESV
40 And with many other words he bore witness and continued to exhort them, saying, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation.”
By Luke’s statement “With many other words” He indicates that this is a summary of Peter’s sermon and not the entirety of the message. He wrote down the vital Parts. Peter stated “Be saved from this corrupt generation” He urges his hearers to hasten and not wait to be saved. He urged them to escape the fate that would otherwise befall them. The term corrupt generation is applied in the Old Testament to those who rebelled against God in the wilderness and in the New testament it applies to those who reject Jesus. The resault 41-43
Acts 2:41 ESV
41 So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls.
Many of those who herd Peter’s Sermon accepted what He said and indicated their acceptance by being Baptized. the result was a large number of new converts were added to the Church. The figure is large and is likely not an exact figure but how Luke describes it, either way the point is gotten that it is a very large figure. and it would not have been unusual for a crowd this large to gather especially at a large festival such as Pentecost.
Acts 2:42 ESV
42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.
Luke finishes with what happens to the new converts four activities are stated. Teaching: They continued to learn under the teaching of the apposesFellowship: great quality of togethernessBreaking of BreadPrayer: The early Christians knew that they could not meet life in their own strength and that they did not need to. They always went to God before they went out to the world. Christians live in reverence because they know that the whole earth is the temple of the living God

Conclusion

1. Are you seeking teaching as the early Christians did?2. Do you desire good Christian fellowship?3. Do you recognize the Power of Prayer? .
