Openning Question
Think of a fun old memory.
It could be funny, crazy, a little embarrassing.
Try and think of a weird thing you did as a child.
Go ahead and turn to the person around you and share that story.
One very weird story I have took place at my babysitters house.
I had a baby sitter named betty sue Marshall.
Betty sue’s house wasn't very kid friendly.
It was cold, there were no toys, she did not have a lot of room for us to sit so we sat on the floor, and her house was quite old and falling apart and there were nails sticking up out of the floor.
Like a said, there was not a lot of fun things going on at betty sues house.
Except for this little stash of goodness I found in the kitchen.
One lovely afternoon i ventured into the kitchen to get some milk.
As I poured the milk my brother told my “you have to try this” as he poured spoonful after spoonful of sugar into his gall of milk.
ill never forget my brother saying “it tastes just like a milkshake!”
And i agreed.
So after we figured this out there was no going back.
We continued to make trips back to betty sues kitchen to get our home made little milk shakes.
One day, we went back there to make some of that good ole sugar milk, I took a sip and it was NASTY!
Well, it turns out that Betty sue was onto us and traded the sugar out for salt!
I enjoy telling stories.
I enjoy thinking about how I can take others along with me in a memory that they were not a part of.
One of the fun parts about it is the challenge of making someone else see what you see and develop their own reactions about whatever the topic is.
Christ’s Purpose in Creation

Openning Quesiont
For as long as I can remember I have been mesmerized by the creation story.
When I was a little kid I heard about God creating everything and I just thought it was so cool, but as I grew up I began to see that there was much more involved in the creation story than simply knowing that it happened, rather I became more interested in who it all happened in the first place?
My asking that question would point me to understand many other things like who God is, what His role in creation was and is, who I am, and finally, how this all impacts my life every single day.
Even Today when I read the story of creation I am blown away to see the almighty creator God put such detail into creation.
If I picked one single word to describe God's work in creation it would be the word "intentional".
Every step along the way with each of God's actions they were and are intentional.
When it comes to a story, you have to make sure you represent the people in the story and the background that lead up to what happened.
Those people who God chose to write the Bible had this same challenge - to present the truth of God’s word to the world just as it was revealed to them by God.

Let’s take a look at together.
1 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep.
And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.
4 And God saw that the light was good.
And God separated the light from the darkness.
5 God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night.
And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.

In we see the background to all of history.
The reference to “the beginning” is pointing to the beginning of time, matter, space, everything!
Please note what was there before all of those things.
GOD.
God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit make up the 3 persons of the one true God of the Bible.
The creation story shows us plenty about all three persons of the trinity, but we are going to focus on 2 things in this lesson.

The role of Jesus Christ in Creation
Our Role As Creations
The Role of Christ in Creation
We just finished celebrating the time of the year that mark’s Christ’s entering into the world, but it is so important for us to remember that Jesus existed long before he took on Human flesh.
Before we look at Christ’s role in creation, lets take a look at a few other verses that give us more insight into this story.
58 Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.” 59 So they picked up stones to throw at him, but Jesus hid himself and went out of the temple.

16 For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.
17 And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.
Hebrews 1:2
but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.
These passage are a few of those that show that Jesus is deeply involved in a story long before Christmas.
Jesus is the one whose power created all things
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.
4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

Our Role As Creations
It would be a shame for us to stop here.
It would be wrong to leave this room with a mere reminder of who Jesus is and His special role in creation.
That is why it is important for us to take one further step here.
Think about this: All that we read in the creation story - especially reading the story of the creation of man, tells us something about ourselves.
I want you to go ahead and look at ,
26 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.
26 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.
is the climax of the creation story.
From the very beginning, mankind was created with a purpose.
Even the words used here are very important.
“In our image”.
This short phrase will tell us our identity from the very beginning.
