4 Reasons Why Understanding and Deepening Your Beliefs is Essential.

1. God is glorified when you know more about Him and His ways.

2 Timothy 3:16–4:1 NASB95
All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom:
2 Tim. 3:16-4:
His desire is that we are “complete.”
His desire is that we are “complete.”
He is sovereign and expects our pursuit of Him.

2. We are refined when we come to understand God more fully.

2 Timothy 4:2 NASB95
preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction.
The expectation is that the Gospel will be at the core of our lives and influence all aspects of our existence.
The expectation is that the Gospel will be at the core of our lives and influence all aspects of our existence.
Understanding of Scripture provokes change in being and action.
This alignment is encouraged by deeper knowledge of God and His love for us.

3. Embracing of truth protects us from error.

2 Timothy 4:3–4 NASB95
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths.
2 Tim. 4:3-4
People want to reject sound teaching because it is unnatural and uncomfortable.
There is a consistent temptation to replace sound doctrine with what is more palatable to humanity.
Understanding beliefs helps prevent overt and covert diversions.

Full comprehension of beliefs allows for true flourishing.

2 Timothy 4:5 NASB95
But you, be sober in all things, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.
You can’t live or die for something you don’t know.
A more developed sense of who God is promotes perseverance through hardship.
A more developed sense of who God is enables joyful expression of faith.
