Matthew 5:17 ESV
“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.
Jesus states that He hasn’t come to abolish, or do away with the Law or the Prophets, but to fulfill them. When it comes to things being fulfilled we have no problem seeing this done in regards to prophecy. Jesus fulfilled all the prophecies pertaining to His first coming, the virgin birth, born in Bethlehem, being anointed with the Spirit of the Lord for His ministry. But what does it mean to fulfill the Law?
The Law had two main parts to it; part 1 of the law is the do’s and don’ts, the 10 Commandments etc. Part 2 of the law was the sacrificial system, the way God gave the Israel to make things right with Him and others when they messed up part 1 of the Law.
The Law had two main parts to it; part 1 of the law is the do’s and don’ts, the 10 Commandments, how to live right by God and others. Part 2 of the law was the sacrificial system, the way God gave Israel to make things right with Him and others when they messed up part 1. So what could Jesus possibly mean by saying He’s going to fulfill the Law?

So what could Jesus possibly mean by saying He’s going to fulfill the Law?
Jesus is the only man who has ever lived the perfect obedient life to the law that God has required of all men. Every do this, Jesus has done and done perfectly. Every don’t do, Jesus did not do. All the righteous requirements of the law Jesus completely fulfilled.
But the law has 2 parts to it, the do and don’ts, and also the sacrificial system, the way to be made right with God and others when you mess up part 1. This was done with an animal sacrifice which was an offering to God for forgiveness. In the book of Hebrews chapter 9 verse 22 it reads, “without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.” The ultimate sacrifice in the sacrificial system was Passover. Before the exodus from Egypt an unblemished male lamb was sacrificed and its blood wiped on the door frame so that the angel of death would pass over the home and the first born son was spared (). When Jesus came on the scene, John the Baptist proclaimed, “behold, the lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world ().”
What does it mean the Jesus fulfilled the Law of God?
What does it mean that Jesus is the Lamb of God?
