John 17:20–21 NKJV
20 “I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; 21 that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.

john 17:20-21
The Pillar New Testament Commentary: The Gospel according to John 3. Jesus Prays for Those Who Will Believe (17:20–23)

What Jesus prays for these believers-to-be is that all of them may be one (v. 21)

He doesn’t pray for world peace, he doesn’t pray that life is easy for them, he doesn’t pray for them to live sin free lives.
He prays for unity

This is not simply a ‘unity of love’. It is a unity predicated on adherence to the revelation the Father mediated to the first disciples through his Son, the revelation they accepted (vv. 6, 8) and then passed on (‘those who will believe in me through their message’, v. 20).

Helpful Insight:
john 17:
If the oneness, UNITY of believers speaks to the world (so that world may believe that you have sent me), does the DIS—UNITY of the Church also speak a message to the world?
John 17:22 NKJV
22 And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one:
The glory of God is when the invisible qualities of God are made visibly or knowable for people to see or understand
The glory that Jesus is praying for gives us 2 things
