‘Name’
What is meant by name?
Narrow Scope:
: Three names around the Verb ‘To Be’
“I am Who I Am”

Emphasis on Unchangeability

Don’t liftup God’s name as useless. Don’t bear God’s name as if it was an afterthought. Don’t carry God’s name carelessly. Don’t treat God’s name like an idol that you can pick up and pick down and use at your discretion!
ReputationHis Name is in Relationship with US! YHWH is a relationship name. And so in relation with God’s people, God’s name means something more than just his name. It’s his reputation!
His Name is in Relationship with US! YHWH is a relationship name.
You have insulted my name! My name represents me!

God Puts His Name in Us

. Solomon wrote, “I intend… to build a temple (and catch this) for the Name of the LORD my God, as the LORD told my father David, when he said, ‘Your son whom I will put on the throne in your place will build the temple for my Name.”
God stamped his name on the temple, and, at the same time, lived in the temple. It’s as if God says, “Where my name is, I am also.”

In , the Apostle John sees a vision of Jesus with every single one of his chosen ones: “Then I looked, and there before me was the Lamb (Jesus), standing on Mount Zion and with him 144,000 who had [the Lamb’s] name and his Father’s name written on their foreheads.”

Shedai, el Shadaià It stresses the greatness of God, it is not an object of fear, but as a source of blessing and comfort (revelation).

Why So Serious?
Example of stoning of someone who misused God’s Name
God Placed his Reputation onto Israel
. Solomon wrote, “I intend… to build a temple (and catch this) for the Name of the LORD my God, as the LORD told my father David, when he said, ‘Your son whom I will put on the throne in your place will build the temple for my Name.” God stamped his name on the temple, and, at the same time, lived in the temple. In , the Apostle John sees a vision of Jesus with every single one of his chosen ones. It’s a miraculous image. John says, “Then I looked, and there before me was the Lamb (Jesus), standing on Mount Zion and with him 144,000,” which basically means every single one of his followers” who had [the Lamb’s] name and his Father’s name written on their foreheads.” Smack dap right here, Jesus, the Father, for all to see, for eternity.
God Put his Reputation onto Jesus:
Reason why He doesn’t hold anyone guiltless??
In terms of format, there are 10 devotionals within each section. The goal would be to read 10 devotionals in between those 2 weeks. That’s an ambitious goal, but it’s a target that has flexibility.
Death Penalty!
About belonging! We were purchased and then branded!

Application:

Christ bore the weight of the guilt of Israel.
What does it mean to bear, carry, lift up God’s name from this broader scope?
As God, He was lifted up, he bore, he carried the guilt for all those who took his name in vain.
Where we bring our bodies, so goes God’s reputation! God’s name is hallow!
: And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus
The Church
17 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus
Bearing God’s Image is different than bearing God’s name!
11 To this end we always pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling and may fulfill every resolve for good and every work of faith by his power, 12 so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
