42 Then Job answered the LORD and said:
SENTENCE 2  ‶ “I know that you can do all things,
SENTENCE and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted.
SENTENCE 3  ‘Who is ‹ this › that hides counsel without knowledge?’
PRINCIPLE Therefore I have uttered what I did not understand,
ELABORATION things too wonderful for me,
ELABORATION which I did not know.
SENTENCE 4  ‘Hear,
SENTENCE [TP and I TP] will speak;
SENTENCE I will question you,
SENTENCE and you make it known to me.’
SENTENCE 5  I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear,
SENTENCE [TM but now TM] my eye sees you;
PRINCIPLE 6  therefore I despise myself,
SENTENCE and repent in dust and ashes.”
The LORD Rebukes Job’s Friends
SENTENCE 7 [TM After the LORD had spoken‹  these words › to Job, TM] the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite:
SENTENCE ‶ “My anger burns against you
ELABORATION and against your two friends,
SUPPORT for you have not spoken of me what is right, as my servant Job has.
SENTENCE 8 [TM Now therefore TM] take seven bulls and seven rams
SENTENCE and go to my servant Job
SENTENCE and offer up a burnt offering for yourselves.
SENTENCE [TP And ‹ my servant › Job TP] shall pray for you,
SENTENCE for I will accept his
ELABORATION prayer not to deal with you according to your folly.
SUPPORT For you have not spoken of me what is right, as my servant Job ″ has.”
SENTENCE 9 So Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite went
SENTENCE and did what the LORD had told them,
SENTENCE and the LORD accepted Job’s prayer.
