The historic judgment on Babylon teaches us about the justice of God:

(1) The Justice of God is a Providential Work -

(2) The Justice of God is a Painful Work -

(3) The Justice of God is a Pauperizing Work -

(4) The Justice of God is a Personal Work -

(5) The Justice of God is a Precise Work -

God’s justice is sure, even if all that we live to see is the time of captivity or difficulty.

Principle: God’s justice is sure, even if all that we live to see is the time of captivity or difficulty.

Proposition: So, trust in the just work of the LORD!

So, trust in the just work of the LORD!

Why should we trust in the just work of the Lord?

(1) Because of the glory of the Lord and His kingdom - , )

Isaiah 13:19 KJV 1900
And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, The beauty of the Chaldees’ excellency, Shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.
Isaiah 11:10 KJV 1900
And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, Which shall stand for an ensign of the people; To it shall the Gentiles seek: And his rest shall be glorious.

(2) Because of the forfeited beauty of the LORD’S Servant - , ; ; ;

Isaiah 13:19 KJV 1900
And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, The beauty of the Chaldees’ excellency, Shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.
Isaiah 53:10–12 KJV 1900
Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: When thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, He shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, And the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand. He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: By his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; For he shall bear their iniquities. Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, And he shall divide the spoil with the strong; Because he hath poured out his soul unto death: And he was numbered with the transgressors; And he bare the sin of many, And made intercession for the transgressors.
Romans 1:17 KJV 1900
For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
Romans 12:17–21 KJV 1900
Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.
2 Thessalonians 1:7–10 KJV 1900
And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day.

How do we show that we are trusting in the justice of God now?

(1) Love and pray for your enemies

(2) Live and persevere by faith and hope in God’s justice

(3) Limit and prohibit carnal responses because of the cross

(4) Lavish and pour good on your enemies, as you have been lavished from the Lord.
