Have you ever thought about yourself as a priest?
9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
To become a priest, A man had to be washed
4 You shall bring Aaron and his sons to the entrance of the tent of meeting and wash them with water.
To become a priest today (become a christian) you have to be washed
16 And now why do you wait? Rise and be baptized and wash away your sins, calling on his name.’
26 that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word,
38 And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
To become a priest a man had to put on the priestly garments.
5 Then you shall take the garments, and put on Aaron the coat and the robe of the ephod, and the ephod, and the breastpiece, and gird him with the skillfully woven band of the ephod. 6 And you shall set the turban on his head and put the holy crown on the turban.
To become a priest today, we must put on Christ
26 for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith. 27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
To become a priest, a man had to be anointed
7 You shall take the anointing oil and pour it on his head and anoint him.
For us to become priests, we have to be anointed
21 And it is God who establishes us with you in Christ, and has anointed us, 22 and who has also put his seal on us and given us his Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.
To become a priest, a man had to be covered in blood
19 “You shall take the other ram, and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands on the head of the ram, 20 and you shall kill the ram and take part of its blood and put it on the tip of the right ear of Aaron and on the tips of the right ears of his sons, and on the thumbs of their right hands and on the great toes of their right feet, and throw the rest of the blood against the sides of the altar. 21 Then you shall take part of the blood that is on the altar, and of the anointing oil, and sprinkle it on Aaron and his garments, and on his sons and his sons’ garments with him. He and his garments shall be holy, and his sons and his sons’ garments with him.
In this scene, the animal had to die because of the sins of the priest, then the blood of the innocent animal would cover the sins of the preists
For us to be priests, we have to be covered with blood
7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace,
For us to be priests, Jesus, had to die for our sins and we needed to be covered by His blood.
To serve as a priest, one had to constantly offer sacrifices
36 and every day you shall offer a bull as a sin offering for atonement. Also you shall purify the altar, when you make atonement for it, and shall anoint it to consecrate it.
In order for us to be priests we need to continually sacrifice
1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
