Introduction
Over the past few weeks we have been talking about the role of husbands and wives.
The joy of marriage and the blessing that comes when God joins a couple together for His glory.
And when two are brought together they form a family, they establish a home.
And friends a home is one of the greatest institutions and designs that we have from God the father a part from the blessing of Salvation in Christ.
The home is a special place, it is a place of love, acceptance, hope, encouragement and blessings.
The home is our refuge at the end of our day, it is the place we dwell with those God has given to us… It is a very special place.
But sadly today the home is being devalued by society, it is being destroyed and pulled apart… by the prince and ruler of this world.
Sadly I have seen it time and time again, And it ought not be…
The home isn’t our establishment, it is God’s.
He joined the first couple together, Adam and Eve… He placed them together and told them to make a family..
And they did...
And when we look at Adam and Eve, we see that sin damaged what God created, it brought heartache and hurt in many ways....
And today my friends, sin is still the leading cause of damage to the home.
And it doesn’t matter what type of sin, Sin is sin, selfishness, greed, lust, …you see it is all sin..
And it has a way of tearing apart our homes.
So what is the remedy, what is the answer, what is the solution to make the home last, to establish it rightly.
The answer is Jesus....
Truthfully the answer is always Jesus.
Let Jesus be the center of your home, of your life, marriage, money, of everything and the home will last.
So lets set it all in place.
This morning I am going to the Gospel of Matthew, and lets look at , verses 24-27
Beautiful passage, it is right at the end of the discourse we refer to as the Sermon on the Mount, and honestly that is exactly what is happening, Jesus is teaching those around him, the disciples and many, many more up on the mountain, in a open field He has invited those around Him to sit and He has taught them.
And what does Jesus say to them.... it is a lot when you look at chapters 5, 6 and 7.
But our focus is the home.
So what can we take away from this passage.
There are some truths that we need to be sure off today.
1. Calamity is Certain in this Life
Listen my friends, some points in life are certain.
I hear people all the time talk about two calamities of life, death and taxes...
It seems to many, those are the two big ones… but there is much more.
Calamity awaits us in this life, and I am sorry if I am painting a dismal picture for you this morning, but it is the truth.
Look at my leg....
Disappointments happen, tragedy, suffering, hurt comes in many, many forms.. Friends this sadly is the nature of a life lived in a world touched by sin.
Disappointments happen, tragedy, suffering, hurt comes in many, many forms.. Friends this sadly is the nature of a life lived in a world touched by sin.
But not only that, there is a Prince and ruler of this world that seeks to hurt, tear down, and yes even kill to capture and keep people away from God.
Consider Job, he is the one we always think of in this time.
Job lost much in his life, and it is the same today, people around us experience loss in this life.
When you look at this passage, Jesus said the rain fell, the winds blew… Jesus is painting a picture of coming hardship in the present world.
Consider all those who came to Jesus looking for help… They were in need because of what they were experiencing right then…
A. there was a woman who had exhausted herself trying to be well because of an issue of blood.
B. There were lepers
C.
There were those who couldn’t walk, limbs that were paralyzed and drawn
D. There those who were on the verge of death and family who were concerned someone was about to die.
B. There were lepers
Today it’s the same, people experience trouble....
We hear the word cancer over and over again, sickness at every turn.
C.
There were those who couldn’t walk, limbs that were paralyzed and drawn
D. There those who were on the verge of death and family who were concerned someone was about to die.
The Bible tells us rain falls on the just and the unjust alike… no one is kept from it.
From the highest place of royalty to the one of the least place here on earth, rain falls and winds blow…
Mathew 8
Our lives are certain to face tragedy and hardship....
We don’t understand it, we certainly do not like it, but we are not alone and there is hope in our present struggle.
The home faces it all and there is a answer in the darkness… It is Jesus and His word.
Not lets look to the good...
2. The Promise of God....
When you look at the Sermon on the Mount, you find that Jesus speaks to a variety of topics, why?
Because He wanted to address people where they were in life.
Look through chapters 5-7… He covers so many of life’s topics...
He knew people were struggling, dealing with temptation, frustration and they needed help.
They needed answers right where they were....
So what is the promise of God?
Look at verse 24...
What do you notice, what stands out to you in this verse?
A. The truth is for "everyone.”
Anyone who would listen can find help.
That is the promise… God is very inclusive in His message.. ; is another example of this..
Whosoever believes… Salvation is open and free to all who would seek and ask for it… God is an inclusive God… He desires all to have hope, peace and life
But God is exclusive… the cross, Jesus is the only way to the Father.
B. The Command is Simple “Hear and Do.” Jesus says everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like wise man...
B. The Command is Simple “Hear and Do.” Jesus says everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like wise man...
If any many would hear and do what God has commanded, they find success.
If any many would hear and do what God has commanded, they find success.
The word “hear” means to receive a communication from someone else.
So you hear and understand what is expected of you...
Share, witness, follow… love others as Jesus does....
Then there is the word “does.”
refers to our actions in this life, but more especially our actions, who we live in front of God.
Please note, life is about taking what we know and putting it into practice, we do it everyday, so much so that we don’t even realize it at times.
Consider being trained for a job, you are taught what to do, so that when you go to work, you know already what do
So Jesus says, if you take what I have said, what I have taught you… if you take it and apply it to your life, you can find life
Listen to James
We have failed in life if we know what we should do, and therefore don’t....
But here Jesus connects a promise here.
The person that hears these words of mine and then does them, action.. they are likened to a wise man.
Think of your home today, your children’s home… you want them to find life…then teach them to hear and follow the commands of God.
There in their home is blessed...
Do you remember when we read from , talking about the father’s role in the family… “Hear O’Israel ......
That is the promise… hear and do… be likened unto a... wise man....
3. The Outcome is a Sure Foundation....
I use the wording a sure foundation, to remind us that what we desire is for our homes to endure… to be strong.
You see in 36 years of ministry… I know this one thing, let a family or family member get away from the Word of God, from what God calls them to do… and you will see a foundation wither away and the home fall...
Lets go back to our text...
The key to a solid foundation is to build your home on the Word of God.
That is what Jesus is saying here… Everyone who hears these words of mine (His Word) and does them, will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
The Rock is an illusion to Jesus and His Word.
Hear and do the words of Jesus and you will wise, like a person who has built his house upon a rock.
