Imitation Christians
Imitation Christians
NLT14 I am not writing these things to shame you, but to warn you as my beloved children. 15 For even if you had ten thousand others to teach you about Christ, you have only one spiritual father. For I became your father in Christ Jesus when I preached the Good News to you. 16 So I urge you to imitate me. 17 That’s why I have sent Timothy, my beloved and faithful child in the Lord. He will remind you of how I follow Christ Jesus, just as I teach in all the churches wherever I go. 18 Some of you have become arrogant, thinking I will not visit you again. 19 But I will come—and soon—if the Lord lets me, and then I’ll find out whether these arrogant people just give pretentious speeches or whether they really have God’s power. 20 For the Kingdom of God is not just a lot of talk; it is living by God’s power. 21 Which do you choose? Should I come with a rod to punish you, or should I come with love and a gentle spirit?

Paul's role as a minister, who his Audience was and the purpose of the letter
Apostle
The Christians in a church that he started
Conflict in the church.
The title was “How Crazy are you?”
We dealt with the difference between God’s standards and the worlds.
God’s ways don’t always make sense but we must keep trusting ans serving Him anyway.
“Power Up”
We need more than just the form of Godliness, we need the power thereof.
Mysterious People
God works in mysterious ways
We are called to understand the mysteries of the world.
Trusting God through the mysterious moments of life.

What are we made of and what are we doing with our lives?
More Than Meets The Eye
We are more than mere humans
We are called and appointed for great things.
Who Cares What They Say?
We need to keep being faithful even in adversity and let God reward us for our faith and faithfulness.
The Definition of Success
The church at Corinth seemed to have it all together by the worlds standards yet were losing their way.
The apostles were experiencing great pains of hardship and adversity but were being more fruitful and righteous because of their unfailing love and devotion to Christ.
Be careful not to envy others who seem blessed because they may be getting blessed because of their lack of faith instead of the other way around.
And today's message is:
Imitation Christians
Opening Scripture
14 I do not write these things to shame you, but as my beloved children I warn you.
15 For though you might have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet you do not have many fathers; for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel.
16 Therefore I urge you, imitate me.
17 For this reason I have sent Timothy to you, who is my beloved and faithful son in the Lord, who will remind you of my ways in Christ, as I teach everywhere in every church.
18 Now some are puffed up, as though I were not coming to you.
19 But I will come to you shortly, if the Lord wills, and I will know, not the word of those who are puffed up, but the power.
20 For the kingdom of God is not in word but in power.
21 What do you want? Shall I come to you with a rod, or in love and a spirit of gentleness?

Paul wasn’t trying to embarrass the church he was trying to improve it.

1 Corinthians 4:14

Sometimes hurtful things are necessary
The truth hurts sometimes
True friends will tell you when you have a booger hanging.
Don’t forget your roots no matter how educated you get.
15 For though you might have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet you do not have many fathers; for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel.
Let’s be Jesus Impersonators
16 Therefore I urge you, imitate me.
Everyone needs a Miyagi
17 For this reason I have sent Timothy to you, who is my beloved and faithful son in the Lord, who will remind you of my ways in Christ, as I teach everywhere in every church.
Hold on I’m Coming
18 Now some are puffed up, as though I were not coming to you.
Be ready to prove faith
19 But I will come to you shortly, if the Lord wills, and I will know, not the word of those who are puffed up, but the power.
14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful.
More than words
20 For the kingdom of God is not in word but in power.
What do You want?
21 What do you want? Shall I come to you with a rod, or in love and a spirit of gentleness?
1 Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy.
15 What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding.
16 Otherwise, if you bless with the spirit, how will he who occupies the place of the uninformed say “Amen” at your giving of thanks, since he does not understand what you say?
16 Otherwise, if you bless with the spirit, how will he who occupies the place of the uninformed say “Amen” at your giving of thanks, since he does not understand what you say?
17 For you indeed give thanks well, but the other is not edified.
