Compelled to Worship

;
Genesis 8:1–3 AV
And God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the cattle that was with him in the ark: and God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters asswaged; The fountains also of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained; And the waters returned from off the earth continually: and after the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters were abated.
Genesis 8:15–22 AV
And God spake unto Noah, saying, Go forth of the ark, thou, and thy wife, and thy sons, and thy sons’ wives with thee. Bring forth with thee every living thing that is with thee, of all flesh, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth; that they may breed abundantly in the earth, and be fruitful, and multiply upon the earth. And Noah went forth, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons’ wives with him: Every beast, every creeping thing, and every fowl, and whatsoever creepeth upon the earth, after their kinds, went forth out of the ark. And Noah builded an altar unto the LORD; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar. And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake; for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done. While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.
Introduction:
There are a lot of people who are compelled to do some amazing things in this world. Doctor’s who are so moved by the dire needs of third world countries leave the comforts of home to tend to the medical needs of others. In the NFL, there are men who are nominated by their teammates to the the Walter Payton Man of the Year. These are men who help with special projects in their communities. I heard many of the nominees efforts and I saw these well-paid athletes who are moved with compassion to help in certain areas such as developing reading programs for kids, giving under privileged children eye glasses, or getting kids of the streets. There are also those who have been struck by disaster or some difficulty who received a blessing and with tears in their eyes they hug and show great appreciation for the benefactor. Noah was compelled to Worship God based upon God’s graciousness to deliver him and his family from judgment.
1. God Remembered Noah, vs. 1-3
A. God did not forget about Noah
A. God did not forget about Noah
God did not leave Noah on the ark for almost a year and one day and said, “Oh I have been so occupied I forgot about Noah. I should check on Him.
The idea of remembered is a term used in “covenant language”
God is calling to mind the promise that He made with Noah and is showing his fidelity (faithfulness of discharging of His promise)
Deuteronomy 7:9 AV
Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations;
B. God’s Judgment upon the Earth is over
Because of the corruption of man, God destroyed all living things upon the land
Sin deserves death
Romans 3:23 AV
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
God fulfilled his promise on destroying the earth but spared Noah
So God cause the wind to blow in order for the water to recede or drain off
The fountains of the deep were stopped along with the windows of heaven
150 days more till the waters were abated or decreased in amount to the point of becoming insignificant.
2. God Commanded Noah, vs. 15-19
A. God Commanded
Go forth from the Ark
Bring forth with thee every living thing
For the purpose that they will breed abundantly
That they will multiply on the earth
Imagine what may have been going through Noah’s mind and heart.
Death and devestation
God’s grace of sparing Noah and his family from judgment
B. Noah’s Departure
Noah disembarked
His family and all the animals after one year and eleven days.
God spared them, protected them, provided for them all this time. God is faithful.
III. Noah Worshiped, vs. 20-22
A. Noah’s First Order of Business
He did not build shelter, he did not gather food, he did not look for water to drink…Noah built an altar
This is an act of worship
Took of every clean beast- as God designed, without blemish, and look at the extent of his offerings.
Offered burnt offerings
A picture of worship
An act of sin offering
An act of peace offering
An act of thanksgiving offering
The burnt offering was the whole burnt offering which indicates the complete devotion to the Lord
What should be our first order of business?
Based upon God’s mercies we respond in worship
We offer up our lives- holy and acceptable
It is our reasonable service
Based upon what God has done for you would you be willing to do the following:
God over your job
God over your spouse
God over your children
Romans 12:1–2 AV
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
2.
Luke 14:23 AV
And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.
Luke 14:33 AV
So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.
B. God is pleased with such worship
He smelled a sweet savour or fragrance
The Lord inhaled the fragrance of the sacrifices
Who doesn’t love a good BBQ?
This expression reveals that the offerings were pleasing to God
He responded with grace
He will not curse the ground anymore for Man’s sake
God determined not to harm the ground (earth) again
In the sense of total destruction like he did with the flood
He will not do this even though man’s heart is evil from his youth
Man is inherently evil since the fall
Sin demands separation
2 Peter 3:9 AV
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
iii. The time will come where no more worship will be offered
There will be no universal cataclysmic event to destroy the entire earth “as long as the earth endures” (While the earth remains)
There will becoming a day when all things shall cease.
2 Peter 3:10–11 AV
But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
