Remember Jesus
Remember Jesus
For I pass on to you what I received from the Lord himself. On the night when he was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took some bread and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces and said, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, he took the cup of wine after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant between God and his people—an agreement confirmed with my blood. Do this in remembrance of me as often as you drink it.” For every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you are announcing the Lord’s death until he comes again.
1 Cor.
Remember Jesus
Anyone here need to be reminded of things? Post it notes and note pads are my friend. Alarms in my phone help me out too. We often need to be reminded to remember things.
What are we to remember? As humans we are prone to be forgetful, but here are some important things we need to always remember.
1. Remember not to forget the gift of salvation, power of the cross and that love came from heaven as Gods son to willingly give his all
2. Remember the sacrifice endured, & Shame he willingly took on
3. Remember our God is not dead it did not end on the cross at the tomb there is victory
4. Remembering to honor and obey God by doing as instructed
1. Remember not to forget Jesus
1. Remember not to forget Jesus
Jesus gave us the gift of salvation, power of the cross and that love came from heaven as God’s son to willingly give his all
Jesus was the greatest person who ever lived. Everything about Him was great: His person, work, influence, etc.
There were more books written, songs sung and discourses given regarding Jesus than all other men combined.
Jesus also did many other things. If they were all written down, I suppose the whole world could not contain the books that would be written.
And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.
To remember Jesus is the most important responsibility of life.
The tragedy of forgetting God is suggested in
Because my people hath forgotten me, they have burned incense to vanity, and they have caused them to stumble in their ways from the ancient paths, to walk in paths, in a way not cast up;
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge:
Because thou hast rejected knowledge,
I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me:
Seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God,
I will also forget thy children.
KJV:
Because my people hath forgotten me, they have burned incense to vanity, and they have caused them to stumble in their ways from the ancient paths, to walk in paths, in a way not cast up;
KJV: My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.
A continual consciousness of Jesus is necessary to successful Christian living; happiness and peace of mind are impossible without it.
In the past God impressed upon His people the importance of remembering Him.
· At the crossing of Jordan the memorial stones erected.
When all the people had crossed the Jordan, the Lord said to Joshua, “Now choose twelve men, one from each tribe. Tell them, ‘Take twelve stones from the very place where the priests are standing in the middle of the Jordan. Carry them out and pile them up at the place where you will camp tonight.’ ”
So Joshua called together the twelve men he had chosen—one from each of the tribes of Israel. He told them, “Go into the middle of the Jordan, in front of the Ark of the Lord your God. Each of you must pick up one stone and carry it out on your shoulder—twelve stones in all, one for each of the twelve tribes of Israel. We will use these stones to build a memorial. In the future your children will ask you, ‘What do these stones mean?’ Then you can tell them, ‘They remind us that the Jordan River stopped flowing when the Ark of the Lord’s Covenant went across.’ These stones will stand as a memorial among the people of Israel forever.”
· The feasts:
1) Passover They remembered the “passover” of the destroying angel in Egypt, when the first born in their families was saved. After that, the first born of Israel belonged to God.
2) Pentecost feast of weeks - remembering that God had blessed them in the harvest of their grain
3) Tabernacles Their thanksgiving - remember that God promised to protect their homes and to bless them.
2. Remember the sacrifice endured, & Shame Jesus willingly took on

We Must Remember His Life
We Must Remember His Life
A. He left heaven and came into this world.
You know the generous grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that by his poverty he could make you rich.
B. The life he lived here was sinless.
Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:
1. Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:
This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin.

C. His life becomes a model for us.
For God called you to do good, even if it means suffering, just as Christ suffered for you. He is your example, and you must follow in his steps.
1Peter
For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:
We Must Remember the Sacrifice of Jesus
We Must Remember the Sacrifice of Jesus
What was involved in the sacrifice of Jesus?
1. A death - Remember that Jesus died outside Jerusalem about 2000 years ago. The Lamb of God was slain, His blood was shed
It was the day of preparation, and the Jewish leaders didn’t want the bodies hanging there the next day, which was the Sabbath (and a very special Sabbath, because it was Passover week). So they asked Pilate to hasten their deaths by ordering that their legs be broken. Then their bodies could be taken down. So the soldiers came and broke the legs of the two men crucified with Jesus. But when they came to Jesus, they saw that he was already dead, so they didn’t break his legs. One of the soldiers, however, pierced his side with a spear, and immediately blood and water flowed out. (This report is from an eyewitness giving an accurate account. He speaks the truth so that you also may continue to believe.) These things happened in fulfillment of the Scriptures that say, “Not one of his bones will be broken,” and “They will look on the one they pierced.”

2. A death of suffering - Some deaths are easy, but not crucifixion.
2. A death of suffering - Some deaths are easy, but not crucifixion.
[Describe briefly the excruciating pain of the nails, heat, thirst, etc.]
3. a death of humiliation - The six trials were but mockery; scouring; crown of thorns and spit; between two robbers, etc.
He was humiliated and received no justice.
Who can speak of his descendants?
For his life was taken from the earth.”
Act
a. KJV: In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth..
Yet it was our weaknesses he carried;
it was our sorrows that weighed him down.
And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God,
a punishment for his own sins!
Rom.
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
a. KJV: Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
b. KJV: But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
B. God has provided us with means of remember this sacrifice.
The New Testament record of His death.
a. We are told that the angels desired to look into His sufferings
They wondered what time or situation the Spirit of Christ within them was talking about when he told them in advance about Christ’s suffering and his great glory afterward.
I was chosen to explain to everyone this mysterious plan that God, the Creator of all things, had kept secret from the beginning.
KJV: 11 Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.
And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:
b. What an honor for us to see and know.
c. Ninety-three verses in the four gospels describe the crucifixion.
a. The symbolism of repentance and baptism is a reminded of Jesus= death, burial and resurrection. 3
3. Remember our God is not dead it did not end on the cross
3. Remember our God is not dead it did not end on the cross
The Cross ends in victory!
Christian worship
a. The songs we sing: When I Survey the Wondrous Cross, On a Hill Far Away...”
b. The Lord’s Supper.
1) The bread and fruit of the vine.
By Christ redeemed, In Christ restored,
We keep the memory adored,
And show the death of our dear Lord,
Until He come.”
C. As we remember the sacrifice of Jesus, we are brought to a deeper sense of humility, gratitude and love.
We Must Remember the Presence of Jesus
A. Christians may be assured of the daily presence of Jesus.
For where two or three gather together as my followers, I am there among them.”
Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
1. We have His promise
Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us;
5 Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, AI will never leave you nor forsake you.
That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:
2. We believe His omnipresence As God He can always be with us
The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right,
and his ears are open to their prayers.
But the Lord turns his face
against those who do evil.”
For the eyes of the Lord [are] over the righteous, and his ears [are open] unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord [is] against them that do evil.
3. We know by experience. Jesus has shown His nearness to us so many times.
B. Christians must remember the power of Jesus
1 So often we do not realize and utilize the power of His presence. We remember His presence on Sunday but forget it on Monday.
2. Think what we have accessible to us in the presence of Jesus:
a. All power.
Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.
20 Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us,
Why fear with this power available?
All wisdom
In him lie hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.
J
3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.
Why live in doubt?
And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.
And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
Why be anxious?
A daily consciousness of His presence will make for holiness, confidence, happiness, etc.
C. In view of these blessings, we should remember His presence:
1. In times of temptation
No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.
This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin.
No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.
2. In times of doubt
That is why I am suffering here in prison. But I am not ashamed of it, for I know the one in whom I trust, and I am sure that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until the day of his return.
.
If we endure,
We shall also reign with Him.
If we deny Him,
He also will deny us.
3. In times of loneliness - ;
which is why I suffer as I do. But I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that he is able to guard until that Day what has been entrusted to me.
Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
3. In times of loneliness - ;
Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, will never leave you nor forsake you.
4. In times of fear
Don’t love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said,
“I will never fail you.
I will never abandon you.”
5. Paul’s secret of successful living was the presence of Christ. He walked, talked and worked with Christ
For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.
I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

We Must Remember Jesus Is Coming Back Again
A. The early Christians remembered vividly the promises of his return:
1. It was promised by:
a. Jesus
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.
b. Angels
As they strained to see him rising into heaven, two white-robed men suddenly stood among them.
And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes,
c Apostles
But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for him to return as our Savior.
But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,
2. Some misunderstood it but they remembered it cf. Now concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered together to him, we ask you, brothers,
3. The fervor of the early church lay in part to their belief in and hope for an early return of Jesus.
We ought to remember that the second coming of Jesus is imminent.
1. It was not imminent in the first century
Don’t brag about tomorrow,
since you don’t know what the day will bring.
2. If the man of sin has been revealed, Christ can come and may come any day and any hour.
Death is also imminent for everyone of us.
Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.
a. A consciousness of this fact ought to help prepare us for the Lord’s coming.
C. We as Christians ought to anticipate the joy of the second coming of Jesus.
1 It will be a time of resurrection
He will take our weak mortal bodies and change them into glorious bodies like his own, using the same power with which he will bring everything under his control.
who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.
For we know that if the tent, which is our earthly home, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.
2. It will be a time of reward
And now the prize awaits me—the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on the day of his return. And the prize is not just for me but for all who eagerly look forward to his appearing.
Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that Day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.
3. It will be a time of reunion with Christian friends.
Conclusion:
Let us do our best to forget the unimportant things of life, and to remember Jesus’ past sacrifice in our behalf.
a. Let us remember his present nearness to us...
b. And let us remember His future coming back for us.
Remembering these truths will keep us close to Him and prepare us for life with Him.
This Tuesday when we were praying I touched the communion table and the world In Remembrance of me come to my mind impressed on my heart.
We reminess about good and bad times to help us learn and reflect on where we were and were we are.
We are to obey God’s word to remember what has been done for us. The pain endured the battles won, the victory given. You know when you have accepted Christ into your life that same power that raised Christ from the dead lives in us. Think about that! The power that raised Christ from the dead dwells in us. Doesn’t that give you a charge of authority? We should not take this road for granted or this walk we get to be on with Him.
May we never lose focus for the things of Christ no matter how clouded or jaded our walk may get. May we never lose the wonder of the cross.
The blood that beats life into the body was shed and given freely to cover our sins it was enough the sacrificial lamb
