Bible Reading: 2 Corinthians 1:8-10
2 Corinthians 1:8–10 KJV 1900
8 For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life: 9 But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead: 10 Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us;
Text: 2 Cor. 2:14; Now thanks be unot God, which always causeth us to triumph in
2 Corinthians 2:14 KJV 1900
14 Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.
Christ, and maketh manifest the savor of his knowledge by us in every place.
Introduction: Overview of the Bible reading.
• Christians are not exempt from trial.
• But they do have the victory: Many are the afflictions of the righteous...

Point 1: God in the trial

A. 2 Cor 1:3; .. God's nature: The God of all comfort.
2 Corinthians 1:3 KJV 1900
3 Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;
1. If there' s any comfort, it's from God.
B. 2 Cor 1:4; Comforts us in all our tribulations.
2 Corinthians 1:4 KJV 1900
4 Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.
C. We testify by experience. Experience is the best teacher.
Romans 8:28; And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
Paul in Prison – Hard but necessary for the furtherance of the gospel.
D. 2 Cor 1:7; ... A steadfast hope for you. We believe.
2 Corinthians 1:7 KJV 1900
7 And our hope of you is stedfast, knowing, that as ye are partakers of the sufferings, so shall ye be also of the consolation.
1. If God did it once, He'll do it again.
2. If God worked out once problem, He'll work out another problem.
3. If God healed once, He'll heal again.
E. 2 Cor 1:8; ... Everyone has trouble. Trouble came to Paul. The devil's work expounded.
2 Corinthians 1:8 KJV 1900
8 For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life:
1. Be not ignorant. Paul wanted them to know of his struggle. Not so that they could feel sorry for them, but so that they could take courage.
2. Pressed - squeezed into despair.
3. Despair means no hope.

F. 2 Cor 1:9; ...

2 Corinthians 1:9 KJV 1900
9 But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead:
1. A learning experience.

G. 2 Cor 1:10;

2 Corinthians 1:10 KJV 1900
10 Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us;
1. Past “Who Delivered us”, present “Doth Deliver”, future “will yet deliver”.
The God that brought us from there to here, is the same God that will bring us from here to glory!
Jesus Christ the same Yesterday, Today, and Forever!
Don’t allow the devil to get your eyes off of Jesus, he is our hope!

Point 2:

2 Cor 2:14; Now thanks be unot God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savor of his knowledge by us in every place.
2 Corinthians 2:14 KJV 1900
14 Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.
A. In the world ye shall have tribulation...
A Winner never quits, and a Quitter never wins
2Cor. 4:17; For our light affliction which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight in glory.
B. Romans 8:31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
Rom 8:35-39 Read
Romans 8:35–39 KJV 1900
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. 37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. 38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Conclusion:
Paul’s Testimony to Timothy: 2 Tim 1:12; For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.
