Let Your Life be Worthy of the Gospel

Philippians 1:27 ESV
27 Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel,
Philippians 1:
Why is Paul so adamant about the Gospel? Why is he worried that our lives reflect this?

So, what does it mean to live a life worthy of the Gospel?
Do we have to earn it?
Is it dependent on us?
No, We live a life following after Jesus
Our life is a celebration of what He has done for us
We live in a manner to bring him honor
We show that we have been bought with a price, and that price wasn’t free

Being Untouchable

Philippians 1:
Philippians 1:20–22 ESV
20 as it is my eager expectation and hope that I will not be at all ashamed, but that with full courage now as always Christ will be honored in my body, whether by life or by death. 21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. 22 If I am to live in the flesh, that means fruitful labor for me. Yet which I shall choose I cannot tell.
Paul knew that Jesus was everything
His life didn’t matter to him, it had been ransomed
He had a grateful heart for what Jesus had done for him
1 Timothy 1:15 ESV
15 The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost.
Paul’s purpose
knew that Jesus was better to be with
Philippians 1:23–24 ESV
23 I am hard pressed between the two. My desire is to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better. 24 But to remain in the flesh is more necessary on your account.

He wanted to be with Christ but knew he had a purpose, to share this great news that changed his life
How you live your life matters
it’s been bought with a price
Jesus is the fulness of life
He is worthy of our lives
Paul had a radical view of a life for Christ, why did he live like this? What were some difficulties Paul would have faced living a life this radical for Christ? Do you face any of the same struggles, if so, how can you overcome them and have a mindset like Paul?
We know that how you live matters, what is something you need to give up or lay down before Christ to live a life of surrender to Him? How can you help someone in your group stay on track to living a life for the Gospel this week?
