I) Danger described – vs.1-2
Foes are many – this is not a singular battle against one, but overwhelming numbers arrayed against him – Judges 15:14-16 (Samson fights against thousands)

II) Lord’s provision – vs.3-6
Lord is a shield – this protection is from the physical and emotional attacks; his glory and lifting his head

David is exhausted by the attacks, but God refreshes him –
The overwhelming numbers (10,000 means the same as millions to us) of enemies no longer frightens him as he experiences the sustenance of the Lord – – we have nothing to fear about the numbers of our enemies
III) Deliverance from the Lord – vs.7-8
David calls for God to arise and save him, as He has done each time in the past by striking his enemies (perhaps this would argue against the rebellion of Absalom, since David did not want Absalom harmed – , )

Concl: It is interesting and revealing to see the change in emotion through this Psalm.
It begins with a desperate description of overwhelming danger, and ends with a confident declaration of deliverance.
Our faith should grow in the same manner.
