What is the Kingdom of God?
The kingdom of God is where men and women are restored through the new life found in Jesus.
Illus: In a world that looks less and less like Jesus we face the overwhelming temptation to build a false kingdom in Jesus’ name.
Just as the disciples thought that Jesus time was better spent attending to the needs of the adults, we are pulled to create the kingdom our way, and not God’s
Jesus used kids at this moment to teach an important lesson.
God’s kingdom is not built in man’s method.
In fact, if people don’t embrace Jesus like children, they will miss him completely.
God’s kingdom is built through faith… our nation will turn around when people embrace Jesus by faith.
Perhaps it is time we stopped getting so worked up about grown up things, and started bringing people to Jesus like kids.
We keep our others from being apart of God’s kingdom because we are me focused.
Illus: Can you imagine If we dropped this into modern times...
Jesus, can you tell these kids to stop, I’m getting my praise on.
Jesus we are discussing adult things, can you get the kids workers to move the kids outside?
Frankly our faith in may places is me centered.
Most of our lives are lived for our own pleasures wants and desires.
We really no longer defer to one another in church seeking the best out of the body.
One of the key teachings about being apart of God’s kingdom is that we choose our brother over our preference every time.
How do kids receive the Kingdom of God?
Kids approach God as the prize.
Illus: Every Wednesday before I come over to greet I purposely head over the the fellowship hall to hangout with the kids while they are having dinner.
Every week I make an effort to give every child a high five, try to be silly with the group, and be their pastor.
One thing I notice is how kids when they show up will run to me to give me hugs.
Some will jump on my legs and hold me nearly tackling me.
When I sit down to eat, kids will interrupt me just to show me their lose tooth, or weird trick.
Every one of those kids wants to experience love.
When an adult comes, the long for attention as their hearts are thirsty for
Do our hearts thirst for the attention of God.
When we get the opportunity to run to him, interrupt him just to get a moment of His attention.
Do we grab hold of his legs, squeezing as hard as we can to have him.
Kids trust God without question.
The older I get the harder it is for me to say, I’ll follow Jesus where ever he sends me.
The older I get the more caveats I want to give God.
God I will follow you as long as I make a decent wage.
God I will follow you, but I am also saving for retirement.
God I will follow you, but I need health insurance.
God I will follow you, but…
It seems the older I get the more the more self dependent in the world I become.
The more my heart is still trying to build my kingdom, or my security.
Faith like a child is saying, complete abandon, trusting God, his kingdom, his security, HIM.
A healthy church must be a multi-generational church.
As adults, we have a calling to watch, learn, and follow our kids example.
Illus: I have a challenge for you this week.
Go spend some time around kids.
Watch them.
Learn from them.
See the reckless abandon the experience the world through, and then perhaps setting aside your caution and care, pursue God with that same abandon.
