Introduction

I would be untruthful to you if I told you I did not like to watch YouTube videos on people failing. Am I right? For some reason, these videos just make us laugh to point of tears sometimes. It’s humorous to us to watch people attempt something and fall on their face.
Neighborhood buddies | First attempter
We might think it’s funny to watch people mess up or fail at something. Here’s the thing: it’s funny until it’s us. Right? No one likes to fail. No one wakes up in the morning and say, “I cannot wait to fail today. It feels so good!”
In the two weeks, we’re going to dive into God’s Word and discover two people that failed miserably. These two guys you would have never thought would have failed, but they did. Their names were David & Peter. “Super Christians” right?
We all know David. He was the one who was a shepherd who rose up to defeat the giant Goliath (as a teen). David was the one who was appointed King. He was the one that God called, “A man after God’s own heart.” Come on! When people looked at David, they wanted to be the spiritual giant that he was.
There’s something we need to know about David. There was a point in his life where he was in leadership after God’s people and he messed up so so bad; and he tried to keep it a secret. What David did you would have never thought he would be the one to do these things, but he did.

God’s Word

Summarize
What was David’s response going to be?
See, here’s our response:
“I failed. I messed up. I sinned. There’s no way to correct it. It’s done. Therefore, I’m defined by my failure.”
DID YOU KNOW THE BIBLE SAYS OTHERWISE?
TRUTH: Your failure does not define you.
TRUTH: Your failure does not define you.
>> Failure aka sin <<]
In order for our failure/sin to not define us, we must recognize and own our failure and sin to God.
Psalm 51:3–4 ESV
3 For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. 4 Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you may be justified in your words and blameless in your judgment.
Psalm 51:3-
As SOON as we recognize and own it, we experience FREEDOM. FROM. OUR. FAILURES & SIN.
What we learn from how David responded in the midst of failure could we life-changing for you.

Pursue God in Confession

I. Pursue God in Confession

David pursued God and confessed. He owned up to his sin. Even though God already knew, David did not run away from God. Rather, David ran all the more to God and confessed.
In our failure, we do not run from God but to God. A lot of us get it twisted that it’s over between God and us when we think we fail Him. No!
In our failure, we do not run from God but to God. A lot of us get it twisted that it’s over between God and us when we think we fail Him. No! The Christian’s daily task is confession and repentance

II. Pursue God in Repentance

You are never more close to God than in repentance.
Think about it, repentance closes the gap between that we have created between us and God.
>>THE CROSS<<
Psalm 51:17 ESV
17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.
Psalm 51:
When was the last time you were at the cross?
Psalm 51:10 ESV
10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.

III. Allow Jesus to Forgive and Restore You

Psalm 51:12 ESV
12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.
Psalm 51:11
Psalm 51:11 ESV
11 Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me.
When you pursue God in the midst of your failure in confession and repentance, God restores! With NO guilt!
>> The gospel of Jesus is able to restore <<
The gospel of Jesus is bigger than your failure and sin. It’s big enough to also remove the guilt and shame you have because of your failure and sin.
The gospel is Jesus is able to restore you from your failure and sin

Conclusion

TRUTH: Your failure does not define you. Jesus’s completed work on the cross on your behalf defines you.
When Jesus restores you, He restores you to show others the beauty and wonder of the gospel.
Psalm 51:13 ESV
13 Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will return to you.
What should we do in the midst of our failure? Pursue God. When we pursue God in our failure and sin, God restores through confession & repentance.
