“_____ ye have not so learned Christ”
“But” is one of the most important words in all of the Bible.
-It denotes the strongest contrast that can be put forth.
-It links two ideas, with the second idea taking on so much importance that it renders the first part of the statement virtually powerless!
“Choose you this day whom ye will serve..BUT as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord”
Ps. 30:5
Weeping may endure for a night, BUT joy cometh in the morning.
In the world ye shall have tribulation; BUT, be of good cheer, I have overcome the world
Now, go back to
Everything Paul has just said....
Don’t live like those that don’t know Christ (like you lived before you knew Christ)
-in the vanity of their mind
-having their understanding darkened
-alienated from the life of God through ignorance
-the blindness of your heart
-not being sensitive to right/wrong, your conscience
-giving yourself over to your lust, violence and greed
BUT!!!!! That’s not who you are in Christ!
Note: You were thieves, you were drunkards, you were liars, you were greedy, you were immoral, you were selfish, you were self-absorbed,
BUT!!!
...now you are washed (cleansed), sanctified (set apart), justified (acquitted, freed, declared righteous)
You are no longer the person you were!
Here is the reason why....
You “learned” Christ...
-You heard Him (not of Him)- His word (Think Paul on Road to Damascus)
-You were taught by Him (His Spirit) - conviction
-You learned the truth that is in Jesus
-The truth about you
-The truth about your sin
-The truth about your guilt
-The truth about God’s holiness
-The truth that Jesus is the only way to the Father
Your a new man!

How many trespasses has He forgiven you?
Which ones?
We’ve traded our sin for His righteousness
We have been forgiven ALL TRESPASSES
We are justified (declared righteous; acquitted; set free) - just as if....
You were a condemned already, now you’re condemned no more.
You were under the curse, now you’re under the blood
You were a sinner, now you’re a saint
You were a sinner, now you’re a son
You were guilty, now you’re declared innocent
You were in bondage, now you’re set free
You were separated from God, now you’re reconciled to God
You were estranged, now you’re adopted
You were the enemy of God, now you’re a child of God

And yet, then we are hit with this admonition....
What your spirit has experienced fully (positionally), your soul (mind, will) and body are still in the process of experiencing in full measure.
“day of redemption”
___________________, we are the new man.
But, it is a conscious process to become the new man _______________.
“put off”, “put on” - taking off old clothes, putting on new clothes
Illust - Just got showered, dirty/muddy/stinking clothes I put back on!

-An altogether “new” nature!

How do we put off the old clothes (what’s on the outside) and put on the new clothes?
It
Your spirit (which was dead) has been redeemed (and brought to life)
Your spirit (which was dead) has been redeemed (and brought to life)

We must change from the ___________ ________or we have not changed at all!
-You can put on clean clothes, but if you are filthy - you still smell!
The _________ is where spiritual transformation happens!
Don’t be like this world, be transformed (changed, different, metamorphisis) by the “renewing” of your mind....
SO HOW DO WE DO THAT?
I’M GLAD YOU ASKED!
Steps to renewing the mind
Be ______________ to have your way of thinking changed
eliver your mind as a sacrifice
Rom.
12:
I present my mind to Christ as a sacrifice - willing to have my way of thinking “sacrificed” (put to death)
-Am I willing to embrace a mindset that is in direct opposition to the way I’ve always thought? (Well I’ve just always believed.....)
-Am I willing to embrace a mindset that is in direct opposition to the way the world thinks?
(All my friends think....)
-Am I willing to embrace a mindset that is in direct opposition to the way I was brought up? (I was just always taught…)
So much of what limits are growth is our unwillingness to change - because change is uncomfortable.
Don’t just read the Bible - _____________on its truths and ______________ your thinking
With a quiet time, you know you’ve done it when you’ve “read your Bible and prayed.”
With the renewing of the mind, you know you’ve done it when you’re seeing life–and more specifically, your current situation–from a biblical perspective.
In other words - change your thinking from the way “you” see things to the way that God sees things!
and be thankful - no matter what!
Determine to glorify God and be thankful - no matter what!
We really only believe the part of the Bible we obey
The proof is in your __________________
We act upon that which we believe (or think) is true.
Adam and Eve ate the fruit because they believed what the devil said…
