1 Then fourteen years after I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, and took Titus with me also. 2 And I went up by revelation, and communicated unto them that gospel which I preach among the Gentiles, but privately to them which were of reputation, lest by any means I should run, or had run, in vain. 3 But neither Titus, who was with me, being a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised: 4 And that because of false brethren unawares brought in, who came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage: 5 To whom we gave place by subjection, no, not for an hour; that the truth of the gospel might continue with you. 6 But of these who seemed to be somewhat, (whatsoever they were, it maketh no matter to me: God accepteth no man’s person:) for they who seemed to be somewhat in conference added nothing to me: 7 But contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter; 8 (For he that wrought effectually in Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision, the same was mighty in me toward the Gentiles:) 9 And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision. 10 Only they would that we should remember the poor; the same which I also was forward to do.

It the first chapter Paul sought to show his independence from the other apposes, but now he seeks to show his unity with them. Here he switched gears from the source of the gospel, to focus upon the nature of the gospel. this was centered upon the issue of circumcision of the gentiles.

this was the first point in Pauls ministery in which he came into conflict with herricy the question was what is to be done about this point of voew was it a minor issue that could be passed over quickly was it an issue where compermise could be sought or should a battle be fought. few other than Paul and Barnabas reconized this issue at the time.

So it is to paul and his unwillingness to compermise onon this importent issue of the grace gospel that christians owe our gratitued of the continueation of the grace gospel in church History
So, it is to Paul and his unwillingness to compromise on this important issue of the grace gospel that Christians owe our gratitude of the continuation of the grace gospel in church History.
It is just as important today that we determine what is an issue of seperation that must be fought, and what is an issue that is just simply not that big of a deal.
It is just as important today that we determine what is an issue of separation that must be fought, and what is an issue that is just simply not that big of a deal.
The grace Gospel is just as important today because some do not see its importance and believe that Human works is part of it. Works do not save us, but they prove our salvation is genuine.

1 Then after fourteen years I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, taking Titus along also. 2 I went up according to a revelation and presented to them the gospel I preach among the Gentiles, but privately to those recognized as leaders. I wanted to be sure I was not running, and had not been running, in vain. 3 But not even Titus, who was with me, was compelled to be circumcised, even though he was a Greek. 4 This matter arose because some false brothers had infiltrated our ranks to spy on the freedom we have in Christ Jesus in order to enslave us. 5 But we did not give up and submit to these people for even a moment, so that the truth of the gospel would be preserved for you. 6 Now from those recognized as important (what they once were makes no difference to me; God does not show favoritism)—they added nothing to me. 7 On the contrary, they saw that I had been entrusted with the gospel for the uncircumcised, just as Peter was for the circumcised, 8 since the one at work in Peter for an apostleship to the circumcised was also at work in me for the Gentiles. 9 When James, Cephas, and John—those recognized as pillars—acknowledged the grace that had been given to me, they gave the right hand of fellowship to me and Barnabas, agreeing that we should go to the Gentiles and they to the circumcised. 10 They asked only that we would remember the poor, which I had made every effort to do.
2 And I went up by revelation, and communicated unto them that gospel which I preach among the Gentiles, but privately to them which were of reputation, lest by any means I should run, or had run, in vain.

Paul mentions he received special revelation to go to Jerusalem and preach the gospel.
He did this quickly and he did it without any attention or fanfare. Even though He is called by God to be a minister of the gospel he is careful as to the methods he employs.
He is not afraid, but he takes action with caution.
This still applies today even though we are called by God we must be careful of the methods we use. The message never changes, but methods do.
Concerning Titus (3-5)
Concerning Titus (3-5)
3 But neither Titus, who was with me, being a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised: 4 And that because of false brethren unawares brought in, who came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage: 5 To whom we gave place by subjection, no, not for an hour; that the truth of the gospel might continue with you.
3 But even Titus, who was with me, was not forced to be circumcised, though he was a Greek.
3 But neither Titus, who was with me, being a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised:
The fact that Paul was “taking Titus along also” is significant because Titus was an uncircumcised Gentile. Although Titus became a missionary companion of Paul and Paul wrote a later to him, he is only mentioned twelve times in the new testament most of which are in 2nd Corinthians.

4 Yet because of false brothers secretly brought in—who slipped in to spy out our freedom that we have in Christ Jesus, so that they might bring us into slavery—
4 And that because of false brethren unawares brought in, who came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage:
By Paul’s statement “Who came in privately to spy out our liberty that we have in Christ Jesus that they might bring us into bondage”
Paul was communicating that the jezuizers had snuck into the church to destroy the liberty that exists in Christ and put Christians back in the chains of the law.
Paul was comunicating that the jezuizers had snuck into the church to destroy the liberty that exists in Christ and put christians back in the chains of the law
Christ broke the chains and has given us freedom through the gospel by his death and reserection
This was done with hostile intent to observe the freedom from the law and the legalism it endangers they wanted to make Christians slaves and bring the believers back into bondage to enslave them to the rules of the law specifically they strongly insisted that Titus be circumcised.

This is an execlent example of why we must screen Church members!
5 to them we did not yield in submission even for a moment, so that the truth of the gospel might be preserved for you.
5 To whom we gave place by subjection, no, not for an hour; that the truth of the gospel might continue with you.
Through all this false teaching Paul stood absolutely firm because of the truth of the gospel was at stake for the galations and the entire Christian church.
However, through all this Paul stood absolutely firm because of the truth of the gospel. was at stake for the galations and the entire Christian church to impose circumcision on Titus would be to deny that salvation was by faith alone and to affirm that in addition to fi=faith there must be obedience to the law, for acceptance before God Therefore the basic issue of the gospel was and Paul refused to compromise in this way. let us never compromise the gospel!

7 On the contrary, they recognized that I had been entrusted with the task of preaching the gospel to the uncircumcised, just as Peter had been to the circumcised.
There are things that just simply are not importent such as what kind of cloths we where to church, or other minor issues but one issue we must never compe
Gal 2:7
Concerning approval (v. 6-10)
Concerning approval (v. 6-10)
6 And from those who seemed to be influential (what they were makes no difference to me; God shows no partiality)—those, I say, who seemed influential added nothing to me.
6 But of these who seemed to be somewhat, (whatsoever they were, it maketh no matter to me: God accepteth no man’s person:) for they who seemed to be somewhat in conference added nothing to me:
10 Only they would that we should remember the poor; the same which I also was forward to do.
the statement those who seemed to be somewhat, is translated those who seem important
theese people were peter James and John the Judaies had linked themselves to peter James and john stating that they did not approve of Paul’s ministry when they clearly had.
After completing his discussion about Titus Paul continued his narrative relating to his conference with the apposes by stating they added nothing to me .
After completing his discussion about Titus Paul cintinued his naritive relating to his confrence with the apposles by stateing they added nothing to me > They did not correct or modify the message which paul gave. but they dud reconize its divine ssource and they affirmed the truth of his message

7 But contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter;
7 But contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter;
The King James has a problematic interpretation because it uses two phrases “the gospel of uncircumcision” and the gospel of Circumcision which suggests two different gospels are present which was a thought that did not exist in pauls mind. a better translation would be the gospel to the gentiles and the gospel to the Jews
The idea here is that Paul is responsible of the spreading of the gospel to the gentiles who were uncircumsized and peter was responsible of spreading the gospel to the jews who were circumsized.
The idea here is that Paul is responsible of the spreading of the gospel to the gentiles who were uncircumcised, and peter was responsible of spreading the gospel to the Jews who were circumcised.
8 (For he that wrought effectually in Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision, the same was mighty in me toward the Gentiles:)
Gal
Just as it is one single gospel no matter who it is preached to. also, the one who commissioned both preachers were also singely commissioned by God and God alone. Just as all true preachers today are commissioned by God alone.
9 And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision.

9 And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision. 10 Only they would that we should remember the poor; the same which I also was forward to do.
10 Only, they asked us to remember the poor, the very thing I was eager to do.
10 Only they would that we should remember the poor; the same which I also was forward to do.
The saints in Jerusalem were famously poor, Paul had already shown concern from time to time for the poor at the time of the famine visit when he traveled to Jerusalem with Barnabas as a representative of the church at Antioch.
