Read

Facts about :

Written by David
Written to the Chiormaster, meaning it was meant to be sung by everyone - this was to be an anthem to live by

Four Parts of :

God is Omniscient (All-Knowing) — vs 1-6
God is Omnipresent (All Around) — vs 7-12
God is Omnipotent (All-Powerful) — vs 13-18
My Response — vs 19-24

• BLIND SPOTS •

“I can’t fix what I can’t see”
Relationship are two-way roads. If one of those directions is closed or blocked, enter frustration, confusion, conflict, etc.
Conflict in relationships generally comes from selfishness
I don’t think about how my actions will affect someone else, and that opens the door for hurt
God changes this in His Omniscience, Omnipresence, and Omnipotence — the only thing hold Him back, is us.
The idea of God being, “Omni” can be so scary at first glance.

Omni...

Omniscience: God’s ability to know all

God has never learned from anyone - He literally can’t learn, because He already knows
God never worries about anything or asks questions to gain information
the only times we see Him ask questions is when He is asking Man a question to help them see their blind spots
EX. Adam and Eve in the garden

Omnipresence: God is anywhere and everywhere at all times

There is nowhere we can go that God will not be there
SONG: Reckless Love
There’s no shadow you won’t light up, mountain you won’t climb up, coming after me
There’s no wall you won’t kick down, lie you won’t tear down, running after me

Omnipotence: God’s ability to bring into existence or cause to happen whatever He wills

This is connected to the fact that He knows everything because He made everything
KEY THOUGHT: You are made by God, therefore you have VALUE & PURPOSE
Psalm 139:14 ESV
14 I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.
Fearfully - ירא - yā•rēh :: to be awesome
Wonderfully - פלא - pě•lah•mah•dal•eth :: to be distinguished (different/unique)

• BOUNDARIES •

“Boundaries define us. They define what is me and what is not me. A boundary shows me where I end and someone else begins, leading me to sense of ownership.”
- Boundaries, Dr. Henry Cloud & Dr. John Townsend

WE BUILD WALLS (blind spots)

1. WE BUILD WALLS (blind spots)

the attempt is to hide our flaws from God
“We minimize the bad and elevate the good”
Social Media - we compare our behind the scenes life with others highlight reels
Life isn’t like social media, we aren’t really hiding our problems from God, we are simply refusing to deal with them - God already knows what’s up
like Elsa from Frozen, we try to conceal don’t feel, when what we really need to do is, let it go

2. WE BECOME VULNERABLE

God becomes a place of refuge (safety) for David
God actually becomes a place of refuge for David
David, doesn’t find God’s All-Knowing and All-Presence as something to be afraid of…instead we actually see the opposite - vunerablilty
In another Psalm, he puts it this way...
Psalm 62:8 ESV
8 Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us. Selah
God’s All-Power becomes a confidence boost...
Psalm 139:17–18 ESV
17 How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! 18 If I would count them, they are more than the sand. I awake, and I am still with you.
The AMP version says, how many and weighty are God’s thoughts
“God has more thoughts about you, than you have about you”

• BELONG •

“When we open up to God, we find where we belong”
We all desire to belong somewhere, but we usually get in our own way...
we think things
we do things
trying to catch the eye of that girl
trying to prove ourselves
we become something
…all so we can find belonging.
“God did not design you in a fearfully (awesome) and wonderfully (distinguished/unique) way and think incredible thoughts towards you, so that you can decide you want to be something else.”
Its our revelation of who God is that allows us to truly be who we are.
We discover who we are because we know whose we are

The Result:

1. We clean up our relationships with others

Psalm 139:19–22 ESV
19 Oh that you would slay the wicked, O God! O men of blood, depart from me! 20 They speak against you with malicious intent; your enemies take your name in vain. 21 Do I not hate those who hate you, O Lord? And do I not loathe those who rise up against you? 22 I hate them with complete hatred; I count them my enemies.
at first glance it seems wrong for, David, to judge others and cut them out when he himself is a sinner
what he is saying here is, those people who were openly marked by evil or hatching evil actions, are the ones we stay away
There are people that are obviously bad news for you.
Don’t flirt with the temptation, run from it.
Missionary dating or friendship doesn’t work - we’ll talk about this more in a couple weeks

2. We prioritize our relationship with God

Psalm 139:23–24 ESV
23 Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! 24 And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!

David’s Requests to be better:

David prays for 4 things to happen now that he understands God is everywhere, sees everything, makes everything
For God to know him and expose his thoughts
For God to perfect his thoughts
For God to purge and remaining evil in him
For God to lead him in a way that everlasting
Everlasting - talks about the ancient paths - meaning paths/ways that have been around for a while and they are known good ways.
Can’t find an ancient path? Ask someone you look up to - ask them how these 4 areas are tuned up in their life.

// WRAP UP

If there is conflict, loneliness, frustration, bitterness in your life, in terms of your relationships, it starts with Y-O-U.
This means you are going to have to make yourself, vulnerable and learn to trust God with your whole heart! That is where everything stems from.
In , Jesus is telling Peter that all things stem from the heart - that’s why we need to be careful about who we allow to have access to our heart.
