Doing Gods Will

Exodus 20:12 KJV 1900
12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.
Sharon served her country in the Gulf War, climbed mountains, and took care of her family, yet she found she didn’t get the respect she deserved from her children. When she would try to call them on their cell phones, her children choose to “Ignore” her calls. Instead of getting mad, Sharon decided to create a cell phone app. Her principle was simple: When her kid’s don’t pick up their mother’s phone call, the app locks their phone. The app, known as “Ignore No More,” is available for any Android phone and is starting to catch on around the country. Sharon says the app works for her because her kids are a lot more alert to her calls.
The topic for this morning is the fifth commandment.
The fifth commandment is the first commandment that deals not with how we treat God but how we treat man. And there is no better place to starts than with how we treat those to whom God has given one of the most important jobs in this world our parents. The love we show our parents speaks greatly about how we view our God. Because when we were feeble, they were in a way God to us.
The first part of the text said to honour thy father and mother.
Why is this important?
It is by honouring or parents that we honour God. Our first parents did not honor their parent and as a result of their disobedience came into the world.
gen 3: 9-11
Genesis 3:9–11 KJV 1900
9 And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? 10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. 11 And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?
Proverbs 5:1 KJV 1900
1 My son, attend unto my wisdom, And bow thine ear to my understanding:
When we disobey sin is always the result.

Genesis 2:9–11 KJV 1900
9 And out of the ground made the Lord God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. 10 And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads. 11 The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold;
gen 2:
When we disobey sin is always the result.
By obedience you will gain more life in this world.
Proverbs 5:1 KJV 1900
1 My son, attend unto my wisdom, And bow thine ear to my understanding:
The Hebrew verb kabbed (“honor”) refers to reverence and respect, This verb is used with both parents and God as its object, reflecting the command’s dual emphasis.
Father’s and Mothers
Father’s and Mothers
The father and mother are to be respected equally, some would like to say that I love my mother more or father more. But God said both, it’s like saying I love the Jesus but not the Holy Spirit or God the father but not Jesus. It’s a packaged deal.
we cannot favor one over the other
Genesis 25:28 KJV 1900
28 And Isaac loved Esau, because he did eat of his venison: but Rebekah loved Jacob.
it causes problems in the home.
When we allow the Holy Spirit to come into our lives, keeping this commandment and the rest will not be a burden. plus there is the added benefit that it will add to your life.
Proverbs 3:1–2 KJV 1900
1 My son, forget not my law; But let thine heart keep my commandments: 2 For length of days, and long life, And peace, shall they add to thee.
Proverbs 3:1 KJV 1900
1 My son, forget not my law; But let thine heart keep my commandments:
Ephesians 6:1–3 KJV 1900
1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. 2 Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;) 3 That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.
Ephesians 6:2–3 KJV 1900

you are guarantee a longer life by just loving your parents, just for doing the right thing. The verse said that it was a promise from God and He has never lied yet.

2 Timothy 3:1–2 KJV 1900
1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

Ephesians 6:4 KJV 1900
4 And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
Now it would be remiss of me to skip over this verse, it goes both ways. AMEN!
I cannot expect something out of what I myself have not poured into. Let me restate it another way. The children cannot come to honor and respect and love you if they are not show it first. Just because you are their parents, does not give you total control to do whatever you want. The same way they should answer to you, you must in-turn answer to god.
Mark 9:42 KJV 1900
42 And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea.
John 21:18 KJV 1900
18 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not.
we all must realize the at some point in our lives, they will be responsible not to us, but for us.

Authority in the Home
Parents are entitled to a degree of love and respect which is due to no other person. God Himself, who has placed upon them a responsibility for the souls committed to their charge, has ordained that during the earlier years of life parents shall stand in the place of God to their children. And he who rejects the rightful authority of his parents is rejecting the authority of God. The fifth commandment requires children not only to yield respect, submission, and obedience to their parents, but also to give them love and tenderness, to lighten their cares, to guard their reputation, and to succor (to assist and support) and comfort them in old age. AH 293
what we learn in our home prepare us to join society. when there is no order and structure in the home it will be reflected in our society. Because society is basically made up of families interacting together. we learn all our social skills at home.
Honoring our parents when done properly translates into respecting authorities wherever you go. If I disrespect my father or mother do you think I will respect my employer or the police or anyone in authority. There are those today who cures their parents to their faces. what do you think their outcome in life will be?
Mark 7:10 KJV 1900
10 For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, Whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death:
mark
When you do not care for those God has put in authority over you it will not be will with you. it lead to death.
Christ himself saw the importance of making sure His earthly parent was taken care of before He died. They are never be thought of as a burden.
John 19:27 KJV 1900
27 Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.
John 19:17 KJV 1900
17 And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha:
Christ himself saw the importance of making sure His earthly parent was taken care of before He died. They are never be thought of as a burden.

Leviticus 19:3 KJV 1900
3 Ye shall fear every man his mother, and his father, and keep my sabbaths: I am the Lord your God.
God has included your mother and father in the same sentence with sabbath. and we all know how important the sabbath is to God. so you can just imagine how he feels about those two you call father and mother.
Closing
Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.” This is the first commandment with promise. It is binding upon childhood and youth, upon the middle-aged and the aged. There is no period in life when children are excused from honoring their parents. This solemn obligation is binding upon every son and daughter and is one of the conditions to their prolonging their lives upon the land which the Lord will give the faithful. This is not a subject unworthy of notice, but a matter of vital importance. The promise is upon condition of obedience. If you obey, you shall live long in the land which the Lord your God gives you. If you disobey, you shall not prolong your life in that land. AH 292.
Loyalty and commitment is important in the families that code created. I am responisble to you just at you are responsible to me. But most importantly I am responsible to God and He has said that I should love and respect my parents so that my days may be blessed. I would ask you to think about your relationship with your parents that God has blessed you with. There is a reason you cannot choose them. He is seeing if you love him enough to keep his commandment.
