The Water Walker

Matthew 14:22–24 ESV

22 Immediately he made the disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds. 23 And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone, 24 but the boat by this time was a long way from the land, beaten by the waves, for the wind was against them.

28 And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” 29 So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus.

I Wanna talk today about “The Water Walkers”

Introduction

Every day as believers, we should strive to develop and mature. Every round should take us to different dimensions in our relationship with Jesus Christ.  

Every day were confronted with things that we may not want to confront. But the truth, you have to come to be spiritual enough to discern that everything that comes into our life that’s bad is from the devil.  

Sometimes, God allows things to come, in order that your greatness inside of you might develop. 

Without these experiences, certain dormant areas of your life would never bud. Where you know it or not, There’s greatness inside of you.

God allows these challenges so that thing in you might come to fruition. 

There’s a group of people that you been knowing since childhood that you’re different;  You know that God has always had something different on your life;  You’ve never felt comfortable in certain crowds; and status quo.

Interesting, because moment you declare that you’re different on a very personal level you will soon have a public platform to declare it.

Text Transition

Truth is:

Jesus contrains (or makes) his disciples get into ship. And Jesus left them alone them to go across the sea. (B) Jesus goes up into a mountain apart from them to pray. (B) a storm comes. 

We know Jesus sends the storm because he is the weatherman. Don’t pay attention into the meterologist says b/c he’s the weather man. Truth is: He can make it storm when the meteorologist says is it’s gonna be sunny.

(B) The storm came and Jesus went to walk into them on the water. (Water Walker)

The disciples discovered that it was not a ghost. Jesus said “it is I.” 

It is Peter: with all of his issues, his personal biographies. It is Peter who declares that I want to step out of the boat and do something that people say cannot be done. I dare walk on the water because Jesus walking on the water.

Today:  I’ve come to declare today that, regardless of your issues and mistakes, that you yet have the potential to do something people say can not be done. 

These are the water walkers.— 

tired of status quo,

People who know, that God has something bigger and better for your life 

Never feel comfortable being boxed into situations where you cannot expand because you recognize that this thing inside you is bigger than the situation trying to control you. (Sitting next to a Water Walker)

I’m not telling you something new: I’m simply confirming with spinning your spirit for a long time.

You’re not crazy to think like you think

Truth is:  there’s some other folk that’s been thinking like you think too..

We believe

We can do what others say we can’t do

We can have what others say we can’t have (Say I’m a Water Walker)

(B) Jesus walking on the water and Peter was in the boat with all the other disciples and Peter say a lot I want to come.  

Jesus says 1 word “COME.” 

And Peter steps off the boat. 

I want you to know: if you’re going to be a water walker (be different) (5:20)

RISK THE FAMILIAR 

RISK THE FAMILIAR

1st Indication is Your Willingness to risk what you’re comfortable with

Peter was ok on the ship.   Ship —  represent that place of comfort  

But  Peter said,  “Lord bid me to come.”

He asked Jesus, I wanna do what you doing Jesus (break it down)

Theres a storm on the sea. (B) the winds are contrary

And the safest place for a fisherman like Peter is on the ship. 

But he knows that the ship represents comfort . and he was willing to risk comfort..... To be what God called him to be (go hard)

The reason some people never reach the next level, because too afraid to step outside of comfort zone (too satisfied with the familiar)

Some people would rather stay on the ship without Jesus than to be off the ship with Jesus.

I don’t care what ship you on, if Jesus ain’t on it:

Relationship

Friendship

Fellowship

It’s will be a Hardship if Jesus aint’s on it.

People miss blessings because afraid to leave the familiar

Denominational — some never join church where being fed (just visit regularly)….. Won’t join b/c afraid to step out of comfort zone of denominationalism...    All my life: Baptiste; Methodist; Pentocost ... When get to Heaven won’t be any denominations

Ethnicity — would join but nobody looks like me—ain’t nobody caught up on that but you..(all I see is red)

Never start Business — b/c comfortable where you are 

When there’s greatness on your life, you have to get away from people with boat mentality.— don’t think big enough.  You got to be willing to walk away b:c they will keep you in the boat and watch your dreams past you by

If you are willing to walk on water, You got to be willing to step away from the crowd

Transition: All the Disciples on the ship, yet it was Peter who chose to be different.   

You gotta to be willing to step away from the crowd (9:21)

All the disciples on the ship, YET IT WAS PETER YOU CHOSE TO BE DIFFERENT

I’d rather be with Christ than be with the crowd any day

You gotta be willing to step out by yourself

Let them talk about you 

Let them call you crazy

But they don’t know what you after (Nei: If you knew what I’m after)

I gotta keep walking when they talk about me

Lie on me; misuse

Speak over someone’s life:  KEEP ON WALKING

Keep walking until you walk like PAUL

Forgetting those things which are behind me, I press towards the mark of the prize....

Transition:

Once I risk the familiar. 

Peter said bid me to come. Come (10:52)

RADICAL FAITH

v.28

1. Faith always needs a corresponding action

Faith is simply acting like God is telling the true.

James 2:20 NKJV

20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?

James 2:Faith without works is dead.

Faith without works is dead.

The fact that you said you were going to do a thing is 1 thing. But what do you do when you have the opportunity to do?

See: You don’t just need ordinary (plan Jane faith)….  You need FAITH to confront the challenge!! What the challenge Preacher?

(B) a storm was going on....  The winds were contrary

Peter stepped out of a boat in the middle of a storm

Conditions were not favorable… But he stepped out!! 

Somebody right now... (middle of a storm.... everything wrong)

I would start business

would go back to school (no money or support)

God saying: stop worrying about storm. You’ll  never what God has for you until that thing inside of you gets so big that it eclipse the storm

Stop REALITY — see POSIBILITY— step out of FAITH

2. Faith will make you commit regardless of how big the storm

That thing inside of you has to get so big that regardless of the storm you will still commit.  And if nothing but for this brief moment in the text, Peter commits himself to the sea and steps out on the water (read)

Peter is walking on water.... This is where we get term “Get Your Feet Wet” (13:00)

Tired of hearing what you wanna do — Get your feet

Tired of seeing catalogs about graduate school — Get your feet wet

Nobody had ever walked on water before (nowhere bible)…. Jonah got throw of a ship... and he got swallowed by a fish.. NO BODY...

Nobody’s ever opened up a business like this before

Nobody’s ever Had a dreamed like

Nobody’s ever Had a Vision like this…

Nobody’s ever Has been to college in your family but you

Nobody’s ever debt free in family

Nobody’s ever been married over 20 yrs

But just b/c nobody has ever done it don’t mean God has raise you as the 1st to do.... “I was born for this moment”

Transition:

1 moment Peter is on the ship and the next moment he’s out in the middle of the sea.

RECOVER FROM MISTAKES

There’s a lesson in every mistake.  Just b/c you have radical faith and a water walker doesn’t mean you won’t make mistakes.  Even the best of us —no matter how anointed—are not exempt from mistakes

It’s been said “ that the only person who failed was the person who tried.”  But what brings glory to God is when you don’t wallow in your failures. And when you declare that I’m gonna try again. .

30 But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”

For a moment Peter took his eyes of Jesus.  (say before scripture)

beginning to sink – shouting news is he didn’t go under.  

Somebody need to give him glory….  (PREACH HARD)

Financial problems

sickness in body

Peter knew who to call on --  water walker knows who to call on

God save me --  3 word prayer (awesome about prayer)

it’s not the length....   but the strength of your prayer.  

He didn’t have time for: “this even heavenly father.  Once more and again, this your humble child... Thanking you for last night rest... thanking you.....”

He didn’t have time for prayer prelimary ........ LORD SAVE ME 

That why hymm writer said “Jesus is on the Main Line, Stop talking so much and Tell him what you want”

Matthew 14:31 NKJV

31 And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”

“the Lord took Peter by the right hand and lifted him up” — 

Neighbor:  when I was sinking deep in sin far from the peaceful shore; sinking deeply stained within; sinking to rise no more. But the master of the sea, heard my desparate cry; and from the water lifted me and safe am I; it was Love that lifted me.”

Jesus and Peter went walking on the water back to the boat—  

I ask Peter?  Peter you called on him.. What are you doing now.  Peter said I’m gonna cling to him.  This time I’m not going to let him go — he walks with me; talks with me

God called you a water walker…

It’s time for you to step out of natural & into supernatural (21:00)

(n) when I step out the 1st time they laughed, but when I come back, I’m coming back better

Stepped out broke…. Coming back blessed

Stepped out sick…. Coming back healed

Stepped out depressed…. Coming back with right mind

Come to release and Anointing:   Declare Today you share step out of the ordinary & walk into the extraordinary

Everywhere put your foot…. Declare I’m a water walker

So What you Can’t afford the house….. Walk on it

So What you Can’t afford the car….. Walk on it

So What you Can’t get the Job….. Walk on it

Conclusion

You’re different.                          

You been call to something

Grab you neighbor hand

Come to declare that every dream, vision, destiny, every desire in your spirit that’s of God shall come to past.

That if you be willing to risk the familiar, to step out of comfort zones, to realize that it’s a new season in your life and understand that everyone won’t agree with it.  But when you hear the Lord say come, that you’ll come.  Peter didn’t have a “Plan B.”  He didn’t ask anyone on the boat if they had a life jacket just in case.  But he stepped out in radical faith and said I’m gonna trust God with all of it.  And even if I slip, I’m not gonna wallow, but get back up and say Lord I’m trying. I won’t let him go.

I decree over that life now a shift out of the ordinary and into the extraordinary.  I declare of your mind now to know that you’re not crazy—nothings wrong with thinking on the level you think on.

That god is connecting you with people you see like you see and understand how big this thing can get inside of you.  And in the mist of your storm, when conditionals are not favorable, I speak faith over your life to step out by faith.
