Warnings!
Warnings!
Admit it or not, warning are for our own good aren’t they? Warnings in the bible oftentimes come with attached precepts (a general rule to regulate behavior or thought). Proverbs 24 is full of both. (also used Gen2:17)
When you think of warnings what do you think of?
Warnings (plural, noun) a statement or event that indicates a possible or impending danger, problem or other unpleasant situation.
Warnings have always been a part of God’s instructions (precepts) to us.
17 but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die.”
We see the warning and the reason (consequence)
Can you give an example or two biblical or personal?
When evil seems to be winning may we remember
They may have happiness, where you have joy
They may be content, but you have peace
They may have riches now; but you have treasures in heaven
(Insert warning sign; already saved on computer)
(illustration) You are driving down the road at 55 miles an hour and you read a warning sign “dangerous curve ahead” what are you going to do? Are you going to adhere to the sign, reduce your speed and continue on, or, are you going to ignore the sign and put yourself at risk and in danger.
The Bible is full of warnings, not because God does not want us to do things, but because God wants to protect us from the things that will or can harm us and we suffer consequences that we did not have to suffer.
So tonight as we continue to look at Pro24 may we glean from the warnings and precepts.

Don’t Join In
It may seem that evil (defined as not God’s way/standard) is winning at times, we are warned not to join in with them.
1 Do not be envious of evil men, Nor desire to be with them; 2 For their minds devise violence, And their lips talk of trouble.
Don’t be envious, desire the things of this world for they will lead to trouble (1Jn2:15-17)
15 Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. 17 The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever.
Trouble in the making for the things of this world and the lusts of this world can keep you from doing the will of God and having eternal life with Him.
Don’t join in for you will be held accountable (Rom14:12; Rom2:5-7)
12 So then each one of us will give an account of himself to God.
I want to add to that
5 But because of your stubbornness and unrepentant heart you are storing up wrath for yourself in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God,
6 who will render to each person according to his deeds: 7 to those who by perseverance in doing good seek for glory and honor and immortality, eternal life;
One day we will stand and give an account for our actions and our words. Our benefit is we have God’s Word, we have God’s Truth, and have been enabled by God’s power to be able to resist evil. Not only power to resist evil but to hate evil.
Don’t join in, resist and hate evil (Pro8:13; Rom12:9)
May we come to know through the Word to know the fear of the Lord:
13 “The fear of the Lord is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way And the perverted mouth, I hate.

9 Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil; cling to what is good.
Not only hate evil, but cling to what is good, love, love without hypocrisy!

Wisdom, fool and the schemer
Scripture is pretty harsh and direct about not wasting time listening to a fool or a schemer

Wisdom is too much for the fool (Pro24:79; 1Cor1:18-25)
The fool does not want wisdom, wants to listen to self talk (Pro18:2)
The schemer lies in wait, watch out (Pro24:15-16)
Wisdom knows you cannot hide anything from God nor keep the good man down (L8:17; 1Jn1:7; Rom8:27; 1Cor2:10)

Wisdom is too much for the fool (Pro24:7-9; 1Cor1:18-25)
Wisdom is too high, too much for the fool, remember he does not listen or understand anyways.
7 Wisdom is too exalted for a fool, He does not open his mouth in the gate. 8 One who plans to do evil, Men will call a schemer. 9 The devising of folly is sin, And the scoffer is an abomination to men.
In the N.T. look what Paul has to say
18 For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written, “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, And the cleverness of the clever I will set aside.”
20 Where is the wise man? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21 For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not come to know God, God was well-pleased through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.
22 For indeed Jews ask for signs and Greeks search for wisdom; 23 but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block and to Gentiles foolishness,
24 but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
In the days of these writings the wise men would meet at the city gates or the high places where people would come and judgment would be delved out and disputes resolved. We should not waste our time in listening to the babbling of the fool who does not have the wisdom of God. Listening to perverse arguments, or foolish discussions. When we do we re just wasting our time.

2 A fool does not delight in understanding, But only in revealing his own mind.
Don’t be a conniver! - the loss of a good name, a good reputation , and being a person of character is not easily regained or able to come back from. In one of the Hebrew translations of Pro24:15-16 says “the scheme of the unprincipled person is sin.” So let me get to that now.

you maybe familiar with the term “You can’t keep a good man down”
You cannot keep the righteous man down either, he will not stay down, he will get back up, look up, thank God and move on for He has the Truth!

The righteous man will continue to walk in the light; knowing God knows everything and you cannot hide anything.
17 “For nothing is hidden that will not become evident, nor anything secret that will not be known and come to light.
So the righteous man who falls short, gets up and keeps walking in the truth, or in the light
7 but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.
27 and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.
God knows, the Spirit intercedes in accordance to the will of God
10 For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God.

Pride comes before the fall, and gloating, well that is form of pride.
17 Do not rejoice when your enemy falls, And do not let your heart be glad when he stumbles; 18 Or the Lord will see it and be displeased, And turn His anger away from him.
Don’t rejoice when evil stumbles around you, for you too stumble and God gives us mercy! Don’t forget God is just. we are called to be people of love
5 does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, 6 does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

We have already read (v.24) and long story short don’t say something to some, call someone something that is not true, that is character unbecoming
9 Do not lie to one another, since you laid aside the old self with its evil practices,
We laid aside those old ways and old practices. We need to be honest and given an honest answer
6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend, But deceitful are the kisses of an enemy.

27 Prepare your work outside And make it ready for yourself in the field; Afterwards, then, build your house.
Put your hand to the plow be willing work for for a living! Don’t look for a hand out. Look at what Paul says:
10 For even when we were with you, we used to give you this order: if anyone is not willing to work, then he is not to eat, either.
That leads us to the next one.

Don’t be senseless (Pro24:30-34) learn and reflect
30 I passed by the field of the sluggard And by the vineyard of the man lacking sense, 31 And behold, it was completely overgrown with thistles; Its surface was covered with nettles, And its stone wall was broken down.
31 And behold, it was completely overgrown with thistles; Its surface was covered with nettles, And its stone wall was broken down. 32 When I saw, I reflected upon it; I looked, and received instruction.
33 “A little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands to rest,” 34 Then your poverty will come as a robber And your want like an armed man.
These poetic words paint a picture, tell a story of a lazy man and the outcome. It is wise saying a good warning that goes with all that we have looked at today. But surely we cannot end on a negative note.
One day the Lord is going to come to judge the world. The question is will He find faith.
8 “I tell you that He will bring about justice for them quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?”
Will we be walking by faith? Will be walking in the assurance o fthe finished work on the Cross for us? The answer should be yes and all these warnings today are just a reminder so not to be afraid of what is coming.

May we be looking for that great and glorious day. We were darkness now we are light; once were alienated and separated now we are heirs. We were once without hope but now have hope. May our hope be confirmed daily by daily coming to know the Lord more through His Word.
