Radiant Church, February 10, 2019 Mike Rydman Welcome to Radiant, Part 5 Church Finances Contentment 1 Timothy 6:6-10 But godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with thee we will be content. But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs. Generosity 1 Timothy 6:17-19 As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life. Regular, Proportionate 1 Corinthians 16:1-2 Now concerning the collection for the saints: as I directed the churches in Galatia, so you also are to do. On the first day of every week, each of you is to put something aside and store it up, as he may prosper, so that there will be no collecting when I come. Cheerful Giving 2 Corinthians 9:6-8 The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. 5 kinds of people in church: 1. Don’t know 2. Know, but don’t care 3. Traders (serve, etc. to counter-balance not giving) 4. Religiously Compliant (under compulsion) 5. Thankfully Generous 2 Corinthians 9:9-13 As it is written, “He has distributed freely, he has given to the poor; his righteousness endures forever. He who supplies seed to the grower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for growing and increase the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God. For the ministry of this service is not only supplying the needs of the saints, but is also overflowing in many thanksgivings to God. By their approval of this service, they will glorify God because of your submission that comes from your confession of the gospel of Christ, and the generosity of your contribution for them and for all others, while they long for you and pray for you, because of the surpassing grace of God upon you. Thanks be to God for his inexpressible gift! God has given everything to us (primarily the life of Jesus for our lives in Him) God can give us the desire to give generously God can take what we give and use it to help other people see the gospel Giving is a vital part of knowing and expressing the gospel, even to ourselves Money In Average Giving minus special giving in 2018 $6,500 Additional income $0 Total income $6,500 Money Out Pastor Salary $4,000 Facility Rental: Harborview Elementary $900 Worship Leader: Anna Schetkey ($500+tax) $550 Act29 membership $300 Plant Alaska $100 Juneau Young Life $100 Insurance $54, PO Box $47, Faithlife Proclaim Software $25, Bank Fee $10 $136 Total expenses $6,086 Money Left Over Income minus expenses $414 No medical, no retirement, absorb all business expenses (travel, etc.) Would you accept this job?
