Introduction

last week we examined
they were bringing their children to Jesus and the disciples were hindering them. When Jesus saw what was going on he became very angry, the word used is Indignant. He said let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for such belongs the kingdom of God. Truly, I say to you whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.
We learned last week Jesus first of all has compassion for the insignificant of society.
Children should never be hindered from coming to Jesus, this passage has nothing to do with infant baptism.
Disciples of Jesus must come to him and receive the kingdom of God with the qualities of a child.

The rich man comes to him

Jesus is setting out on his journey towards Jerusalem. A man runs up and knells before him with a very important questions.
Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life? In Matt account chapter 19 of this occasion he record the man asking Jesus “what good deed can I do?”
Jesus as he often does answers the man question, with a question. “why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone.
Jesus answers him with this question, to stimulate his thinking. We will see what the man thinks about him self in a moment, but Jesus is correcting the man’s thinking even before he has a chance to boast.
Jesus tells him, you know the commandments: Do not murder, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, honor your father and mother.”
So here we go, verse 20 the man says “teacher all these I have kept from my youth.”
Although the man called Jesus good teacher, we now see who the man believes is good. Its himself. This became a deadly
