Y’all have no idea how excited I am about this series we are starting tonight, “What’s the Buzz” we are really going to be diving in to all aspects of relationships, and love ❤️ - it’s going to be great!
Of course, when February roles around we all start seeing all the pink and red and hearts everywhere in all the stores…..and we know that it is that time of year to celebrate love and our relationships that we are in because its the month of Valentines Day or Single Awareness Day.
I love LOVE, and I love seeing people who are truly in love together and happy and all that. Anybody else?? So relationships are great and God created them - if they are healthy ones of course.
But FIRST THINGS FIRST (title of my lesson tonight) we have to make sure our relationship with God is healthy and where it needs to be.
“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” -
First - this word here in scripture is not talking about first in time, it’s talking about first of importance
Our relationship with God is to be first and foremost of importance than any other relationship that we are in.
Now let’s be honest, how many of us make it a priority to seek after having a relationship with someone?? Like, we just can’t function if we aren’t talking to or dating someone - we are constantly seeking someone out, because it is important to us. Right?? Y’all can deny it but I see you, I see you on your instas and snap chats with those surveys and things you do.
There is nothing wrong with wanting a relationship and seeking someone out, BUT your relationship with God has to be FIRST.
Hailey made this slide for me, for my lesson tonight, you’ll notice its a bowl of cereal, because she was saying how its breakfast which is our first meal of the day and was like yeah and we were like yeah lol (Meme Mondays)
How many of y’all know that breakfast is the most IMPORTANT meal of the day, why? Because its the FIRST meal of the day so it sets the tone for the rest of the meals that you consume and it sets the tone for your energy throughout the day.
Just like we are supposed to make breakfast and eat it to set the tone for the rest of our day, we must put God first to set the tone for the rest of our lives.
I know it seems like we are always emphasizing this, but its because it truly is the most important thing to do in your life. Out of everything, if you’re relationship with God is not in a good place, or it only exists in the summer after camp, or only when bad things happen. Or you hear a really good sermon.
Do you only eat when you absolutely need it?? No most of us eat when we don’t even need it. And if we haven’t eaten in a few hours we are starving to death…we feel like we just can’t function, right? Like we can be so dramatic about it, and our moods change, we become hangry and what not.
This is what happens to us spiritually when we don’t make our relationship with God a priority, we become hangry, we get frustrated with the little things, we can’t think clearly, we can’t make sense of situations, everything gets at us.
Don’t live your life backwards, because if you are prioritizing backwards, you are moving and progressing backwards.
Make your relationship with God first and foremost, priority.
