So a lot of you are talking about it, the majority of you are thinking about it.
We need to address it in church.
Sex.
Now I know it’s weird, so let’s go ahead and get all these out!
Toss out little Snickers bars to everyone.
Sex is this taboo thing in the church and it makes people uncomfortable, but our culture is not uncomfortable with it in the least!
Y’all are definitely hearing what the world says about sex.
You have to hear what God says about it.
The world is telling you it’s a free for all.
We are just creatures seeking pleasure.
But the world doesn’t get to decides that.
Some doctor or psychologist doesn’t get to decide that.
God created sex.
He’s the one who made it so pleasurable!
It’s true!
So He is the one who knows the right and wrong ways to go about it.
This is not a sex ed course.
Not going to talk about what does what and goes where.
Not an anatomy course.
Humanity has taken a good gift from God and abused it and twisted it.
This is not a sex ed course.
Not going to talk about what does what and goes where.
Not an anatomy course.
We’re going to look in the Bible and see what God’s plan for sex is.
Then we’re going to talk about the lies that the world tells women and men about it.
And as we talk about this, I understand that there is a lot of hurt and brokenness that surfaces with this topic.
I know some of you come from backgrounds where you haven’t seen it done the way God’s Word says.
Some of you have made your own mistakes.
God is love.
God is grace.
Jesus showed mercy to the woman caught in adultery, but He also told her to go and sin no more.
God has a good plan for sex and it’s very different from the world’s.
PRAY & Read Gen 2:18-25
A woman for the man
A sexual relationship is meant for two people
Pornography is against God’s plan for sex.
Job “Covenant with my eyes.”
We’ll talk about this more later, but for now, understand that God’s design has never involved sexual stories, pictures, or videos on tv or the internet.
A sexual relationship is meant for a man and a woman
God made a man and a woman.
Again, we’re not doing sex ed, but he made the man and woman function well together, if you catch my drift.
We are in a sexually and gender confused world, but God’s Word is clear on this.
People like to say that they “were born this way”.
Ok, fine.
I was born wanting to have sex with as many women as I could.
God’s Word says that’s sin and I submit to that and repent.
We are born with all kinds of sinful desires.
Being born with a desire doesn’t make it good.
One of my favorite quotes I’ve ever heard is an answer to this.
The Gospel says you can be born again, another way.
Christian, hear this! Homosexuality (and gender confusion while we’re at it) are sins that are difficult and they aren’t as common as many sins, but they aren’t a special class of sin either.
Do not treat people struggling with this like they are freaks.
They need the Gospel in the same way you do.
Treat them with love and respect, which includes telling them the truth of God’s Word.
Your friend having sex with their boyfriend or girlfriend needs to hear the same thing as your gay friend (yes, it’s ok to have a gay friend).
If this is something you’re experiencing, I would love to talk with you about it.
But God’s tells us with love and with grace in his hand, that sex is for one woman and one man, and here’s what He says about their relationship.
Hold fast to his wife
Sex is for a husband and wife.
Marriage is a life-long commitment.
Ride or die, it’s me and Kristen against the world.
This is important because sex brings a closeness between people.
Part of its purpose is creating intimacy.
When a spouse starts having eyes for another, whether it’s a person they know, an imaginary person on a screen, or they just want to be selfish and think only about their own happiness, that disrupts the intimacy that a husband and wife are supposed to share.
Sex creates a strong, physiological bond and intimacy.
Every time it happens.
They become one flesh
Sex is for a husband and wife.
It’s the consummation act of the marriage.
You ever want a sip of water in the middle of the night.
Wouldn’t it be a lot easier to just get some from the toilet than going all the way to the kitchen?
It’s all water!
No. That’s not good water, not pure water.
Sexual activity outside of marriage is not pure.
Or think about fire.
I love fire, low key pyro.
Fire places and fire pits are fun.
A fire in my bed, dangerous.
It needs to be in the proper place.
It’s the same thing with sexual activity.
It’s not “just sex”.
Hook up culture doesn’t work.
There are chemicals release in the brain during sex the create a psychological bond between two people.
“How far is too far?”
I asked that question too.
Please don’t ask that question!
Y’all see the chunky style milk Super Bowl ad? That’s kind of like asking, “how much chunky style milk will make me throw up?”
Y’all see the chunky style milk Super Bowl ad? That’s kind of like asking, “how much chunky style milk will make me throw up?”
Don’t says, “well a blow job isn’t technically sex.
A little finger diddling isn’t technically sex.”
That’s not fleeing from sexual immorality.
And by the way, the word from the original language that is translated “sexual immorality” is porneia (sound familiar?), and it means basically any sexual activity outside of marriage.
The NIV translates as there must not be a hint of sexual immorality.
Don’t try to get close to the edge of this cliff!
And another thing!
You can go too far without actually touching.
Without actually even being in the same place.
Do not send nudes!!!
Naked and not ashamed
Sex is a gift from God.
