This morning we are going to be in the 15th chapter of Romans starting at verse 7. Before we get there though we need to understand that Paul is beginning to wrap up his letter. In chapters 1-3 Paul discussed sin and its affects on the us. From Chapter 3-11 Paul discusses the glorious salvation of God. The forgiveness of sins and what it does for the Christian. Then from chapters 11-15 Paul talks about the inward change and what that looks like on the outside of the Christian. I find it interesting and yet challenging that Paul chose unity in the church to make his closing arguments. Last week I told you that if you want people to remember what you preach you close with a few short sentences for people to remember. Paul is doing this within this letter. He culminates his entire letter with unity. This is the point in the 30 minute TV show that the music comes and the lesson is learned. I am starting at Vs 7 because of one word. Therefore.
In English therefore tells the reader that everything up to this point is leading to this triumphant closing. This is the turning point.
Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.
The entire point is for us to welcome one another as Christ has welcomed us. He is talking about Christians welcoming Christians. He talked about sin, he talked about salvation. He talked about what all of that looks like and then he ends with Welcome one another. The weaker loves the stronger. The stronger loves the weaker.
The church should be a picture of perfect harmony. The church should be quarrel free.
The term welcome is an interesting term because when you think of welcome you think of being nice and worming. However, this type of welcome is like having your child come home for Christmas whom you haven’t seen in 10 years. This welcome is an aggressive welcome. When we think of welcoming someone we think of handshakes and “A” Frame hugs.
But this is a grizzly bear type of embrace. People should not just see love the should feel exude from every fiber of your being.
Why? Why should the church be quarrel free? Why should we welcome vigorously?
For the Glory of God.
Now every time you see the glory of God it literally means to the profession of your faith. Paul is saying that your greatest witnessing tool is how we treat each other.
Why is Satan so busy pitting denomination against denomination. Christian against Christian. Because by quarreling with each other it shows the church is no different than the world. It is only through selfless love that with each other that we display Christ inside of us.
Paul displays this in Verse 8
For I tell you that Christ became a servant to the circumcised to show God’s truthfulness, in order to confirm the promises given to the patriarchs,

and in order that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy. As it is written, “Therefore I will praise you among the Gentiles, and sing to your name.”
Christ became a servant to those who despised him so that those who didn’t know him would glorify him because of the mercy shown to them.
Then notice in verse nine Paul quotes Isaiah and we see the term therefore again. Praise is then directly linked to the salvation of the gentiles which is linked to how we treat eachother. Your attitude toward other Christians directly affects the salvation of others.
As I was writing this I felt God speak to me Son—Why do you think people pray for the salvation of their loved ones and yet see no fruit? Because their attitude toward each other builds barriers on the road of salvation.
Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered.
Our relationship with others directly affects how people see us, how receptive they are to the gospel, and even our ability to converse with God.
Isaiah repeats himself
And again it is said, “Rejoice, O Gentiles, with his people.”
Rejoice with each other. The magnitude of your praise isn’t as strong apart as it is when among a unified body of Christ. Unification is the center of Christs message and a breeding ground for saving souls.
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.
Joy and peace— Peace is directly linked to joy. The harmony of the church will cultivate peace and joy which will result in the unleashing power of the Holy Spirit so that people will abound in hope.
Hope is linked to the Spirit. The Spirit is linked to Peace. Peace is linked to the harmony of the church.
As I was praying for this morning I believe one of Christ’s biggest message to us is that he has called us to be a healing church, but we cannot heal others if we ourselves aren’t healed. If we can’t solidly state that we are in harmony with each other then we are in affect watering down the Holy Spirit with disunity.
If you go throughout the bible the biggest moves of God is when God’s people were of one mind.
When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
God’s people were in unity and the Holy Spirit fell, tongues of fire burned the gospel was preached and the multitudes were saved.
Lets pray…together…in unity…at the alter. BUT FIRST
So if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you,
leave your gift there before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.
