Dealing With Conflict The Right Way
Dealing With Conflict The Right Way
Last week we learned about sexual immorality and the need to cut ties with those who openly engage in various forms of wickedness.
Let’s recap the last few verses we ended with last week.
1 Corinthians
9 I wrote to you in my epistle not to keep company with sexually immoral people.
10 Yet I certainly did not mean with the sexually immoral people of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or idolaters, since then you would need to go out of the world.
11 But now I have written to you not to keep company with anyone named a brother, who is sexually immoral, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner—not even to eat with such a person.
12 For what have I to do with judging those also who are outside? Do you not judge those who are inside?
We should turn those over to satan that are:
Sexually immoral
Covetous = Jealous
Idolaters = worships false gods
Revilers = Mean spirited who blaspheme or yell railings towards others.
Drunkards = those who abuse Alcohol
Extortioners = takes advantage of others
Self Righteous view: It is easy for the self righteous to turn others over to satan.
I remember a day when people would be turned over to satan for a lot of things.
Example of Pastor watching the Movie theater with binoculars on weekends to catch members in the act.
It was the pharisees who always wanted to stone those caught in the act but Jesus said Neither do I condemn thee go and sin no more.
Merciful View: Those who are full of love and mercy find it hard to turn people over to satan.
Jesus not only forgave the woman caught in adultery but he also let Judas hang out with Him knowing he would betray Him one day.
This is because Judas was hiding his sin
Jesus didn’t try to catch Judas in the act and rebuke him.
But what do we do when we have conflict with our brothers and sisters in Christ?
Let’s pick up where we left off:
1 corinthians 6:1-
1 Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unrighteous, and not before the saints?
2 Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world will be judged by you, are you unworthy to judge the smallest matters?
Paul say “I dare any of you” He was pretty Bold with that statement.
Family should always attempt to handle it’s own problems privately.
Paul asserted the authority that the “saints” (those living devoted lives to Christ) have to Judge righteously.
Jesus taught us how to deal with conflict in:
Jesus taught us how to deal with conflict in the church:
15 “Moreover if your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he hears you, you have gained your brother.
16 But if he will not hear, take with you one or two more, that ‘by the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.’
17 And if he refuses to hear them, tell it to the church. But if he refuses even to hear the church, let him be to you like a heathen and a tax collector.
We shall Judge angels
3 Do you not know that we shall judge angels? How much more, things that pertain to this life?
It should be embarrassing to sue a fellow Believer in secular court.
4 If then you have judgments concerning things pertaining to this life, do you appoint those who are least esteemed by the church to judge?
5 I say this to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you, not even one, who will be able to judge between his brethren?
6 But brother goes to law against brother, and that before unbelievers!
Except what happened and learn your lesson.
7 Now therefore, it is already an utter failure for you that you go to law against one another. Why do you not rather accept wrong? Why do you not rather let yourselves be cheated?
8 No, you yourselves do wrong and cheat, and you do these things to your brethren!
7 Now therefore, it is already an utter failure for you that you go to law against one another. Why do you not rather accept wrong? Why do you not rather let yourselves be cheated?
1 Corinthians 6:7
Not everyone can be part of the kingdom
9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites,
10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.
1 Corinthians 6:9-
But for the Grace of God
11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.
1 Corinthians 6:11-
