Intro

As mentioned last week in the Mr Incredible sermon, the book of Judges is a book that deals with the cyclical sinful nature of God’s people. God delivers His people, they rebel, God allows their enemies to subdue them, God’s people cry out, God delivers them, and the cycle continues. We see this cycle within our families today. Particular in the husband and wife relationship. We choose to do as WE please as human beings, making our own rules for what marriage looks like and even the intention of marriage. But God lets us know exactly how we should be as spouses. This morning I want us to focus our heart first on before we delve into the book of Judges again so that we, through Paul’s letter may see what God has to say about Mrs. Incredible, the wives.
Ephesians 5:21 NRSV
21 Be subject to one another out of reverence for Christ.
The first and most important part to understand within a marriage is that the relationship is cooperative submission to each other out of respect for Christ. Your relationship should preach a sermon to the world in what submission looks like. It should show the world that you are in submission to God through Christ. When husbands and wives are SUBMISSIVE to each other, they show the world that they RESPECT the order of the structure of which God created.
"Each for the other, both for the Lord"
Before we progress we need to understand that OUR MARRIAGES ARE SERMONS TO THE WORLD THAT WE FALL UNDER THE AUTHORITY AND ORDER OF GOD.
Ephesians 5:22–24 CSB
22 Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord, 23 because the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church. He is the Savior of the body. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives are to submit to their husbands in everything.
eph 5 22-
Ephesians 5:21–24 CSB
21 submitting to one another in the fear of Christ. 22 Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord, 23 because the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church. He is the Savior of the body. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives are to submit to their husbands in everything.
While the responsibilities for the husband may be vast in that he is to love the wife in the same way that Christ loved the church, the role of the wife is a bit more trim. Paul states that the wife is to be in submission to her husband. Her submission is to mirror the same submission that she has for the Lord.
While the responsibilities for the husband may be vast in that he is to love the wife in the same way that Christ loved the church, the role of the wife is a bit more trim. Paul mentions in regard to the wife the word submission. That is not to say that the wife is the slave of the husband. But it is to say that the wife recognizes the
Th order/organization in which God has set up for the home is by His design. God has set up an order through which we are to operate within.

With that order set it makes sense that a good wife will do everything in her power to make sure that she submits to her husband for the sake of their union being a sermon to the world! Mrs. Incredible will do everything in her power to build up her home!
Genesis 2:18 CSB
18 Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper corresponding to him.”

God literally made woman for man!

Genesis 2:19–24 CSB
19 The Lord God formed out of the ground every wild animal and every bird of the sky, and brought each to the man to see what he would call it. And whatever the man called a living creature, that was its name. 20 The man gave names to all the livestock, to the birds of the sky, and to every wild animal; but for the man no helper was found corresponding to him. 21 So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to come over the man, and he slept. God took one of his ribs and closed the flesh at that place. 22 Then the Lord God made the rib he had taken from the man into a woman and brought her to the man. 23 And the man said: This one, at last, is bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh; this one will be called “woman,” for she was taken from man. 24 This is why a man leaves his father and mother and bonds with his wife, and they become one flesh.

Proverbs 14:1 NRSV
1 The wise woman builds her house, but the foolish tears it down with her own hands.
Mrs. Incredible will do everything in her power to make sure that she is building up her marriage in order for her husband to be Mr. Incredible and the children to be Incredible as well. She will build up her house!

Last week it was revealed that we would be speaking about Delilah. Some of our wives may be wondering what they can take away from Delillah to help them to become incredible and build up their homes. Many are aware and others are not about the power in which every woman possesses. Delilah, though flawed, will point out some of those qualities.

The Incredible Qualities of an Evil Woman

judges 16 4-21
Judges 16:4–21 CSB
4 Some time later, he fell in love with a woman named Delilah, who lived in the Sorek Valley. 5 The Philistine leaders went to her and said, “Persuade him to tell you where his great strength comes from, so we can overpower him, tie him up, and make him helpless. Each of us will then give you 1,100 pieces of silver.” 6 So Delilah said to Samson, “Please tell me, where does your great strength come from? How could someone tie you up and make you helpless?” 7 Samson told her, “If they tie me up with seven fresh bowstrings that have not been dried, I will become weak and be like any other man.” 8 The Philistine leaders brought her seven fresh bowstrings that had not been dried, and she tied him up with them. 9 While the men in ambush were waiting in her room, she called out to him, “Samson, the Philistines are here!” But he snapped the bowstrings as a strand of yarn snaps when it touches fire. The secret of his strength remained unknown. 10 Then Delilah said to Samson, “You have mocked me and told me lies! Won’t you please tell me how you can be tied up?” 11 He told her, “If they tie me up with new ropes that have never been used, I will become weak and be like any other man.” 12 Delilah took new ropes, tied him up with them, and shouted, “Samson, the Philistines are here!” But while the men in ambush were waiting in her room, he snapped the ropes off his arms like a thread. 13 Then Delilah said to Samson, “You have mocked me all along and told me lies! Tell me how you can be tied up.” He told her, “If you weave the seven braids on my head into the fabric on a loom—” 14 She fastened the braids with a pin and called to him, “Samson, the Philistines are here!” He awoke from his sleep and pulled out the pin, with the loom and the web. 15 “How can you say, ‘I love you,’ ” she told him, “when your heart is not with me? This is the third time you have mocked me and not told me what makes your strength so great!” 16 Because she nagged him day after day and pleaded with him until she wore him out, 17 he told her the whole truth and said to her, “My hair has never been cut, because I am a Nazirite to God from birth. If I am shaved, my strength will leave me, and I will become weak and be like any other man.” 18 When Delilah realized that he had told her the whole truth, she sent this message to the Philistine leaders: “Come one more time, for he has told me the whole truth.” The Philistine leaders came to her and brought the silver with them. 19 Then she let him fall asleep on her lap and called a man to shave off the seven braids on his head. In this way, she made him helpless, and his strength left him. 20 Then she cried, “Samson, the Philistines are here!” When he awoke from his sleep, he said, “I will escape as I did before and shake myself free.” But he did not know that the Lord had left him. 21 The Philistines seized him and gouged out his eyes. They brought him down to Gaza and bound him with bronze shackles, and he was forced to grind grain in the prison.

Delilah was motivated & invested

Judges 16:5–6 CSB
5 The Philistine leaders went to her and said, “Persuade him to tell you where his great strength comes from, so we can overpower him, tie him up, and make him helpless. Each of us will then give you 1,100 pieces of silver.” 6 So Delilah said to Samson, “Please tell me, where does your great strength come from? How could someone tie you up and make you helpless?”
Delilah was motivated by money but she had a goal and was driven.
An Incredible woman will make it her business to be goal oriented. (Virtuous woman Prov. 31:13-16)
Proverbs 31:13–16 CSB
13 She selects wool and flax and works with willing hands. 14 She is like the merchant ships, bringing her food from far away. 15 She rises while it is still night and provides food for her household and portions for her female servants. 16 She evaluates a field and buys it; she plants a vineyard with her earnings.

The Power of Patience, Persistence, and the Tongue.

Judges 16:6–17 CSB
6 So Delilah said to Samson, “Please tell me, where does your great strength come from? How could someone tie you up and make you helpless?” 7 Samson told her, “If they tie me up with seven fresh bowstrings that have not been dried, I will become weak and be like any other man.” 8 The Philistine leaders brought her seven fresh bowstrings that had not been dried, and she tied him up with them. 9 While the men in ambush were waiting in her room, she called out to him, “Samson, the Philistines are here!” But he snapped the bowstrings as a strand of yarn snaps when it touches fire. She was patient in meeting her goal
Every Mrs. Incredible understands that a Godly home is not built over night.
She understands that just because her husband is not being a leader fast enough doesn’t mean she ought to take his and her role.
She understands the husband won’t always see what he SHOULD see! Even though he should...
She even understands that the husband may not be where God wants him to be yet.
A patient wife will be patient and work with her man until the Godly leadership comes.
Judges 16:16–19 CSB
16 Because she nagged him day after day and pleaded with him until she wore him out, 17 he told her the whole truth and said to her, “My hair has never been cut, because I am a Nazirite to God from birth. V16Words of Mrs. Incredible
Delialiah understood that she had a super power! Her tongue!
This same man who tore apart a lion with his bare hands.
This same man that killed thousands with a jawbone of a donkey
This same man who could destroy a building with his hands
was overcome by the tongue of a woman!
Wives make sure that you don’t use your tongue for evil!
Don’t cuss out and bad mouth your husband and then tell him “I don’t know why he don’t feel like a man!”
Don’t expect your husband to just know you love him SHOW him
Turn your Clark Kent into Superman!
eph 4 29
Ephesians 4:29 CSB
29 No foul language should come from your mouth, but only what is good for building up someone in need, so that it gives grace to those who hear.

Delilah provided peace Judges 16:19

Judges 16:19 CSB
19 Then she let him fall asleep on her lap and called a man to shave off the seven braids on his head. In this way, she made him helpless, and his strength left him.
When Delilah met Samson he was a troubled man
His wife allowed him to be played by the Philistines because she was scared of them.
His wife would later been burned alive
He was a MESS!
Delilah knowing her super powers was able to tame the beast
Wives can your husband find peace in you?
Does he hate coming home?
When he is beat up by the adversary dealing with frustration, sexual temptation, anger from outside the home can he find what he NEEDS in you?
Can your husband tell you EVERYTHING that holds him down?
Can your husband trust you?
Notice Samson did not wake up when Delilah was messing with his hair.
Can your husband trust that you won’t make his external belonging to God look bad?
You won’t cut him down in public?
You won’t cuss folks out at the job
You won’t go playing house outside your OWN!
When examining this incredibly evil woman we can see the same super power that Mrs. Incredible should posses. Mrs. Incredible will be motivated & invested, patient, and provide peace for Mr. Incredible!

Conclusion

Mrs. Incredible is wise enough to understand that the success of Mr. Incredible means her success as well. Mrs. Incredible understands that her family shows the world God. Mrs. Incredible has the power to build up and strengthen her home starting with the husband. Be Incredible and show the world how God wants them to be through your family!
