Conscious; aware of and responding to one's surroundings.
Dreadful; causing or involving great suffering, fear, or unhappiness; extremely bad or serious.
Sometimes you want to go to sleep and not wake up until the problem has been solved.
It's a place we don't want to be in when the truth is the place we are in is really a place of grace.
tell Jonah's story.
Theological Lessons:
1. Jonah's punishment was he was thrown over-board, however, he experienced grace in the belly of the fish.
Jonah was concouise when he could have been dead.
2. Jonah was in a hedious place but his prayers were able to reach a holy place.
From the stomach he prayed-
3. Jonah is conscious in this place.
As long as he is conscious there is still a chance.
Jonah is in the belly of the fish and there is no way for him to get out.
Somethings when you encounter the situation says; that's it, it's final
Dag and Dagha;
while in the belly of the fish/dag.when he prayed dag became dagha.
The writer uses the word daga for fish which is feminine.
A great fish swallowed him; The word in Hebrew means to engulf.
A fish did not swallow Jonah in order to eat him, but to shelter him.
Now while Jonah is in this place of shelter it doesn't seem like shelter, but it sees like waiting for death to be finalized.
In a place where we see no clear exit; it doesn't seem like shelter but something engulfing us.
The text does not say God created a fish, but he appointed a fish.
For God to call a fish to rescue a drowning man in the middle of the ocean is not a big deal to God; it is something God is able to do.
Jonah was in a place for 3 days and 3 nights
Dosen't seem like a long time.with out food or water.increased the improbability of survival. Our place of grace can at times seem to be to much to bear.
The Prayer
Jonah was in a bad place but God was still his God.
