Beginning To Understand Faith
Beginning To Understand Faith
B
What is faith?
Heb 11:1-2
1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. 2 For by it the elders obtained a good report.
‘by it the elders obtained a good report’
by what? What is a ‘good report the elders obtained?’
39 And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise: 40 God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.
What was the ‘promise’ they did not receive?
What is the ‘better thing God provided for us?’
How are they ‘made perfect’ by us?
3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.
7 He stretcheth out the north over the empty place,
And hangeth the earth upon nothing.
1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
‘Through faith we understand’
Having faith in the Word of God it brings ‘understanding’
Faith is: Substance, Hope, Evidence
Why do you think it is important to have understanding?
‘Things which are seen were not made of things which do appear’
What doe this mean?
17 (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.
4 By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.
2 And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground. 3 And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the Lord. 4 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the Lord had respect unto Abel and to his offering: 5 But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.

10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother. 11 For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. 12 Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother’s righteous. 13 Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you.
